Default scared to use any form of the pill..

has anyone else had this issue?

i know my hormones go whacko when i am taking any form of oral contraceptive. i am so so worried that my milk supply will dip or change in flavour and my dd will stop breastfeeding. (i am going by what happened when i fell pregnant while my oldest was 15 months - at around 3 months, i noticed she wasn't as interested in feeding and whenever i expressed, i was getting colostrum, not milk)

its gotten to the point now, though, that i have had too many "pregnancy scares" and i feel like i should probably start taking something.

so i just kinda wanna know is the mini pill completely different and won;t affect my supply at all? or is it hit and miss with some women?
When I cry, I am not being naughty or misbehaving; I am not being unreasonable. Please listen to me when I am feeling this way. I know it's hard to listen to me cry. Listen to me so that I don't repress these feelings and turn bitter when I get older. Please don't distract me. I need to deal with these feelings. Offer me hugs and support. Stay with me when I cry. Listen.. Keep listening..

I think some women do have issues with it while others don't.

Mostly I'd say that it is fine as it's commonly prescribed during breastfeeding, and if you did notice an issue, you could always stop taking it.

I'm sorry I don't have personal experience with it, have you searched the ABA site or asked on their forum?

    What about condoms?
sorry if that's the obvious question that has already been covered elsewhere

I went back onto the mini pill (Microlut) 4 weeks ago. I already had issues with low supply and I truely believe it was the change in hormones as a result of going back on the pill that nearly dried me up all together. I started nursing tea with fenugreek and expressing after every feed and it seems to have rectified but even my daughter got very grumpy at the boob as she was hungary and i couldn't fill her. Thankfully I had some frozen ebm so i just defrosted that and topped her up. This went on for a good 3 weeks.

If you want to go back on the pill by all means do so but maybe before you do, express lots so you have a store just incase it does temporarily effect your supply.

    Good luck

The mini pill is hit and miss IMO. You have to be super diligent about taking it at the same time daily, so if you cant commit to that, then there is no point taking it.

I was taking git when i fell pregnant with my DS, but i was very Meh about it and took it only when i remembered and then stopped because i wasn't DTD anyhow...i assumed it dropped my supply as i was BF DD but it may have been the fact that i was pregnant and didn't know.

    Not sure.

Condoms or IUD are good methods.
My friend swears by her IUD, me...well i trust nothing and had my tubes tied!

Thanks for all the info. I might wait until she weans then. I feel guilty enough for my first stopping at around 18 months due to me getting pregnant. I would hate for my second to stop prematurely, too. I think the fact that I already know my hormones go all over the place on the regular pill has made the decision a bit easier.

To answer the question re condoms: sex just doesn't feel as spontaneous and I hate the feeling as does dh. Nothing better than wearing nothing lol

except maybe not getting pregnant! sex gets way less spontaneous with a housefull of kids (soory my lame attempt at a joke )

seriously though, I made the same decision to avoid hormonal contraceptives as I thought the risk of early weaning was high for me.

Just beware, I think some IUD's actually use hormones these days and therefore anyone wanting to aviod hormonal contraception would have to steer clear of those too.

What about using a diaphragm and spermicide? I don't think it is as reliable as pill or condoms, but at least you would avoid using hormonal contraception. Another option may be the nuva ring (or whatever it is called..) it still is a hormonal contraception, but releases a lower dose of the hormones.

If you are having regular cycles, then temping/charting and/or NFP method may be for you if you don't want anything hormonal and hate condoms? We have used this method many times for both trying to fall pregnant and not trying to fall pregnant LOL and once you understand your body, it's fantastic.
