Default babies latching on correctly by themselves

For all you experienced breastfeeders, how old was bubs when they could latch on by themselves. My DS is still very young (nearly 4 weeks old) and i still have to shove the nipple in his open mouth but wondering what age they know to open their mouth etc and just start drinking.

Around 2 to 3 months for us too. DD2 is 7 months and I still laugh at her wide mouthed dance at night

LOL, I BF my son until he was 13 months and he NEVER learnt how to latch on himself! I always had to attach him. He has a bottle of milk before bed now and he wont even hold that himself....he is such a lazy bones sometimes!!! Lucky he is so cute!
    Me(32) + Him(32) = DS1 (3.5 years) + DS2 (11months)

I can't remember - I remember i was drawing my nipple right back into his mouth around 4 weeks still. At 4 months I'm sure he was latching himself. With some direction.

Now he's 21 months he sleeps in our bed he latches himself without needing to wake me
