    Smile New to this life!

Hi everyone, my partner is less than 3 weeks from March-out at Kapooka. His is doing electronics technician and the first part of his training will be in Bandiana, just outside of Albury-Wodonga. I have like a billion questions. First of all, we have had our defacto status approved since before he entered Kapooka, does this mean they will pay to move me and all my furniture etc from Brisbane to Albury-Wodonga? Also, will he be able to live with me or does he have to live on base? With the housing situation, do we have to find our own house and then they contribute rent assistance or do we live in an army house?

Thanks so much in advance, I'm totally lost with all this and him still being at Kapooka limits the talking time and also the information he can give me.

Hey thanks so much for the reply, I like to be really organised and informed but without kowing who to talk to etc it's hard to get details. So it's great to be able to chat with someone who has been through it. Another quick question. I'm studying in Brisbane at uni at the moment and am planning on applying to La Trobe campus in Albury-Wodonga, so me moving is based on getting accepted there. Is there a certain frame when we have to move? Like if he gets posted to start there in say October, do I have to move there in a certain time frame?

As long as he is posted for longer then 6 months you will be fine. And I dare say you will have no problems getting into Uni down here

Just thought as a fellow Uni student I'd pop in.

I don't know if it's an option for you Cabena but the best thing I ever did once my partner enlisted was change over to being an external (distance ed) student.

I am studying a genetics degree full time through Macquare University, but there are other fantastic external programs all around the country (I Know charles sturt is pretty good too), for pretty much any degree you could ever think of...

It just means I do all my lectures and tutorials online and my assignments get posted or emailed to the Uni. Being a science student I do have to do practical classes, but that is normally only about 1 or 2 weekends a semester where I have to go on campus (It's just a mini holiday).

I did this because chances are we are going to be on the move in another 18 months and with only 1 year down and 3 to go on my degree I didn't want to have to change Uni's again. This way I have one Uni no matter where we are in Aus (it means timeframes of getting accepted etc don't matter either ...

So yeh, just an suggestion to consider looking into if it interests you.
