Bloating, Sore breast and positive home pregnancy test. Now what?

I am 31yr old, and have never seen a doctor for female related stuff. I think that is embarrassing because I wouldn't know what to do or what to say.

Last month, ( I don't remember when exactly), we thought we want to try for a kid and for the past 2 weeks, I have been having serious bloating, which happens normally few days before my period but this time seems longer and my breasts are sore breast too. Used a Crystal Clear home pregnancy test and the result came out with a very BLUE " + ". I think I might be pregnant.

Problem is I don't know what to do now.
Booked an appointment with a GP near home this week but he is a male! Will he refer me to a female Obst & Gynae specialist? or ultrasound to confirm the results of my pregnancy or what?

How do I know which hospital to go or what to do? Are there regular checkup or scans to make sure the baby is ok?

One of my friends had a stillborn in the last minute even though she had her checkup 2 days before and the baby was fine (as told by her doctor). Somehow, her placenta was detached from the baby and dropped out of her and the baby suffered brain damage because of lack of oxygen. It was terrible!

The baby was resusitated with electric shock although dead for 5 minutes in her. Almost full term at 35 weeks when that happened. Baby survived but some of the muscles are dead and unable to feed normally, so has a feeding tube attached for pumping milk through her nose.

Can someone please reassure me that these things don't happen always in Queensland?
I am terrified of the healthcare system because I am just unsure of what to expect.

How awful for your friend to have had that experience I'd think it's uncommon for that to happen!!!

So what will Likely happen is you'll see your gp. If you've had a positive false positives a highly unusual but the gp may want to
double check, they can do another wee test there or a blood test. You can also choose to have an ultrasound to find out the date the baby' was likely conceived and that'll
give you a due date. Otherwise if you know the first day of your last period they work it out as being 40 weeks past that day.

Your main options will be, private hospital or public hospital - the gp can give you a list of obstetricians if you want to go private. Jump on mybirth.com.au they have lists of hospitals if you enter your post code.

You'll have appointment every month or so in the early part of your pregnancy. Just to check up how things are going. You can have another ultrasound at 13 weeks to see how things are going and to test for down syndrome.

The 'main' ultrasound though is at 18 weeks where they go over everything, heart, Brain, check the fingers and toes

There are a few other blood tests along the way.

The further into pregnancy the more fewest the check ups are. So like the last trimester you'll likely see someone every 2nd week.

You can choose though to have as much or as little monitoring and tests as you want. You can pick and choose, it's up to you want you want (for example I didn't get the 13 week scan because I didn't want to know if downs syndrome was a possibility)

Ummm oh and other choices you have is you can have shared care - so you see your gp for some appointments and the hospital for others. You can hire an independent midwife. You could have a home birth.

Yah, she doesn't smoke or drink and the doctor had no explanation for her as to why it happened. She didn't have any accident or any trauma prior to that and was just watching tv at home with a sudden pool of blood, she thought was pee initially.

Is the public healthcare ok?
In the goldcoast, the main hospital for delivery would be the Goldcoast hospital wouldn't it?
Any idea which one is more cost effective, I bought private healthcare insurance but I heard that I still have to pay for somethings and everything public will be free under medicare?

The GP that I see for my pregnancy confirmation will be the GP that I see for the rest of the journey? or can i go somewhere else after the confirmation?

Too many choices made it hard i think.
