    Default Bendigo Hospital

Has anyone had their bub at Bendigo hospital or know anyone that has? Any experiences? I have been to the actual hospital before but not that maternity section!

I was with my bestie when she delivered her first bub at Bendigo Hospital. For the most part, the experience was pretty good. When it came to the actual delivery though, the epidural had been topped up too much so she couldn't feel anything to push with the contractions. The doctor ended up using the ventouse to get the baby out... however he seemed to be more concerned about the cricket match on the TV behind him than the baby he was in the process of pulling out

    Hey there,

Thanks for your response. Note to self: do not give birth during cricket season. What was the after care/stay in hospital like?

    Thanks again

I had my DS there and it was horrible.there was no support during pregnancy with regard to genetic problems and testing. I had to have tests arranged overseas and via the womens hospital in melb because they wouldnt help. I was very fortunate that my DS is fine he had a 50% chance of being born with a terminal condition they wouldnt acknowledge was a possibility.

My waters broke before labour established and they wouldnt let me go home to allow labour to establish. they gave me sedatives without my consent and induced me the next morning. as the PP said the epidural was put in wrong, then redone then the drugs were increased too far. I went respiratory distress as my diapragm became paralysed by the epi and i couldnt breathe-had no inclination to breathe- had to ask them if that was normal before i passed out and they hit panic stations.

I was also unable to push and was given an episiotomy and vaccume extraction delivery- even though the hospital had agreed that if there were any issues at all we would have a c section (had a psychologist negotiate this with the hospital due to abuse trauma) they ignored this even as my husband and i cried and begged them to help me.

the dr was also watching the telly during the extraction (the news i think) i felt a bit like a piece of meat on a tray waiting for him to get DS out.

After the delivery i ended up back in hospital for 2 weeks with a uterine infection caused by retained placenta and an infection at the epidural site.

the only good thing to come of my experience was my beautiful DS. if we ever heal past this we will drive to melbourne and stay when i am close to due to have our next at the womens hospital- or we will have a home birth.

Sorry that is an awful story. There were some great middies there and some average ones (just ignore the advise of the ones you dont like.)

On the other hand apparently st john of god is supposed to be good- most of my mothers group birthed there and had positive stories.

good luck- and who knows maybe i am the exception and others have had good experiences. I dont know of many though
