Default HELP!!!! Drastic Drop in HCG Levels

    Hi Girls

Just wanting to know if anyone here has had an experience in dropping HCG levels and at what point you had a m/c. Also looking for some happy ending stories (I know this is highly unlikey in my case) but just curious.

Anyway I had a BT last Thursday (12th of August), HCG came back at 14,650. Doc said this was perfect for this stage of pregnancy (6 weeks 3 dats approx).

Had another BT on the Saturday (14th of August), Doc called me that night and said that they only confirmed pregnancy but didn't indicate levels. They finally sent through report for that test on Monday and my HCG came in at 72 .

Is it possible for HCG levels to drop that drastically in such a small amount of time?? Is it possible for the lab to stuff up that badly??

As yet I have not had any bleeding or anything, it is just business as normal. I am so scared and very confused. Can anyone shed some light on if this is normal or not.

    Thanks!

Sorry you are going through this stressful time! I'm no expert, but I think it sounds a but strange for the hcg levels to have dropped so rapidly. I think you should get repeat bloods done asap. Even an ultrasound at your gestation will show something. I had an ultrasound last week at 6w3d and saw a tiny heartbeat. Try to get an ultrasound or bloods dine to set your mind at ease.

I did have a drop in HCG levels, but it wasnt till I was 14weeks. At 10weeks it was 85000, but at 14 weeks it was 32000. But it is completely normal for it to do that in the second trimester.

I would be seeing if you can get a ultrasound asap, so you know if everything is ok.

all is ok with your little bubba

I'm not a Dr or a lab technician........

BUT - I'd assume those levels were wrong.

Prior to my D&C (2 weeks after my baby had died in utero) my HCG level was still over 6000.

With the ectopic it wasn't until AFTER i miscarried that my levels dropped to under 2000.

So i would definitely think that there is something suss with those results.

You can ring the lab direct and get them to confirm results. Or if you aren't comfortable doing that ring your Dr's secretary and ask if they can do it for you.

I'd also be having another blood test immediately.

ETA....... I hope everything is for you!!!! And I agree with the PP posters, maybe get a U/S - I had a heartbeat at 6 weeks visible on U/S.

I really wish I had something good to say but this is what happened to me when I had my m/c . Of course, this may not be the case for you but I would be asking for more tests to be done and even an ultrasound. You could rock up to the emergency at the hospital and ask for an ultrasound.

The lab may have stuffed up too, it happens.

I thought it was strange too! I have googled this ALOT and I can tell you that I have found nothing in relation to HCG dropping that quickly.

My doc called my on Monday with this so I have had 2 days of solid tears. He is away on a conference. I made contact with his surgery today, basically to ask how long should I wait? nothing is happening etc. Another one of the doctors there has written me a referral for another BT. I already have a scan booked for next Tuesday. So I guess I will have to wait and see although I think I know what the outcome will be .

If you already have your scan referral can you try and ring and get in today or earlier.
Explain what has happened and ask if they can fit you in for an emergency scan.
I've had these done before and the U/S place was always helpful and willing to fit me in.

Thanks for your honest responses. Sorry you had to go through as well. By the looks you have both gone on to have healthy pregnancies which is very reassuring.

May I ask, how long after your HCG drop did you start to bleed etc or did you have D&C's?? Also, did you have it confirmed with an ultrasound?
