    Default Should I WORM DS???

    Should I worm my DS?

DS is 27months and for the last couple months he has been a bit full on, off his food, he seems to have a fair bit of bad behaviour (which is not like him)

My mum got back from 3 months over seas and the first thing she said to me was he has worms and needs to be wormed. Then my FIL just came down and said the same thing.

My Nan (mums mum) was a midwife/nurse her whole life (just retired) and was the head nurse only a few years ago. She said that when children act out like this and there is no specific reason and they go off food etc it can be worms and its best to worm them. Mum said that everyone once wormed their children when they noticed similar changes.

I talked to the dr about this a little while ago and she said he is to young to be wormed and needs to wait till 2. (then he wasnt yet 2) She also said she wouldnt bother worming him unless you could see them in his poo (sorry tmi) I have not been able to see any and he doesnt say his bottom is itchy or anything. I havent seen any obvious signs of worms.

However we do have a dog and DH does get them every now and then so I am thinking about worming him now that he is 2.

BUT has anyone else heard of this? Do you think they could be right and has anyone noticed similar with their children? Do they settle down and start eating etc soon after and how long does it take to kill the worms if he does have them?

Sorry about the long post but a HUGE thanks in advance!!

I'd speak to the chemist, but in this household we all get wormed every 6 months

We have a dog and a cat and seeing as neither DD nor myself wash our hands after every single time we touch the dog or cat we like to use this as back up.

DD doesn't mind, all it is is a choc square which 'tastes a little funny' according to her

We worm every 6mths here as well. My MIL first told me about the behavioural and off their food thing that was related to worms. I have never seen any in their poo. But a simple choc square every 6mths is just reassuring that they dont have them.

We own 2 dogs and a cat and like a pp we don't always get to DD all the time to wash her hands. We wormed DD from the age of 6mths which is the minimum age and this info came from the dr and chemist. It's called combantrin suspension for threadworm, roundworm and hookworm.

I worm the furbabies every 3mths and us every 6mths. It works for us.

We worm if the kids are off (with no other reason) or if DD complains of and itchy bottom/girl bits!
Both DD and DS take the choc squares with no issues

We worm at the start of each of the school holidays.
My 2 yr old had no signs of worms (that i could see) but was irratable and not sleeping to well, i wormed her and YEP she obviously had a gut full of worms, as did i pretty disgusting but glad we were treated.

I am breastfeeding so cant use combantrin, but Pharmacist gave me one i could use which i had to take 2 big tablets, and the kids had different orange flavoured ones, they didnt like them much so we are going to stick to the choc squares from now on.

    Great to know! Thanks guys!

Just interested to know... Do your children start eating, sleep, behaving better after you have worked them? How long dud it take for them to get their appetite back and settle down etc?
