Default What to do with the placenta!?

    hi all

I have been interested for quite some time now about eating pill size pieces of the placenta for the weeks/months after birth.
I am possibly considering this for my next child - even though we arent actually pregnant yet, or even ttc! Although i would need to do alot more research about it to properly decide.

I just mentioned this to my DP (along with possible delayed cord clamping) -- well he thought i was the biggest weirdo ever!!
He thinks its ridiculous, and he said if its so great and beneficial why dont they tell everyone to do that in the ante-natal classes!

Please help me educate him! and help me educate myself more also!

Does anyone have links to any proven info on the benefits of eating the placenta?
Or any other info at all?

    TIA

    i went-a hunting and i did fine...

Sheep placenta is a rich source of nutrients, growth factors and bio-active cytokines. It is based on these bio-essentials that new life is developed. Scientific studies found that placenta contains high level of special proteins (placenta proteins), some of them promote cell growth, some of them regulate hormone secretion and some of them strengthen our immune system.

Placenta has been used in China for over 1400 years as a Chinese Medicine or promoting general health. It has a wide range of health benefits including enhancing body energy, skin complexion and stopping aging process. Recent scientific research has shown placenta contains rich growth factors, hormones and antibodies, and other concentrated nutrients that can rejuvenate organic tissue.

[yes, i know we're eating human placenta, not sheep placenta - i'm sure the whole idea behind it is the same for both though. human is just, less weird ]

I LOVE the look of this website (that someone recently showed me). its for a specific encapsulation company - but it lists reasons why you may want to encapsulate. i know i cbf getting a company to do it.

and HERE is a 'how-to' website to prepare it yourself. (or get a doula/midwife to do it for you).

HTH's. hopefully you can convince your partner!!!
