    Default Diabetes...

    Hello all...

Okay firstly i have to be honest here so please dont be too cruel on me.

Its about gestational diabetes. I was never diagnosed with gestational diabetes but i was put on diet control since i was 0.1 over the threshhold.

Today i went for my 37 week antenatal where the week before i had a HBA blood test to which the result of 6.2 was told to me today.

heres the scary part, i was given the finger prick machine to monitor my blood sugar but for the past 2 weeks i have been very naughty and well sort of made them up..... i havent been able to do anything but rest and eat. adding to this at my next weeks antenatal the doc wasnts to check my machine with my recordings.. i feel like i am back in high school about to get suspensed or expelled for cheating.... HELP

Does anyone out there know what my blood test means, what is the worst case scenario for my baby and also any ideas on dealing with the doctor tomorrow?

PLEASE HELP I AM STRESSING OUT BADLY....

sorry, i know its not funny but it kinda gave me a giggle.

are you saying the result of your blood test was 6.5? The cut off is usually 8 . 6.5 is still normal...and why would they put you on a diet and make you monitor your bloods if you haven't been diagnosed with GD?

i have no idea what to do with the doc other than be upfront and say you haven't done anything.

one of the major risks with GD is a big baby and hence shoulder dystocia (sp?), which means bubs can get stuck on his/her way out. is this your first?

When I had GD, I was told by the endocrinologist that ideally my readings should be under 5.5 in the mornings and under 6.5 two hours after meals. I was on insulin though and towards the end of my pregnancy the readings were heading towards 9 and 10 and she put me onto a higher dosage. I would guess that if generally they are around 6.5 two hours after meals then you are probably doing fine at the moment but bear in mind that they may increase with time.

    Good Luck

I would be truthful and upfront with ur
doc - ur not in high school anymore, ur an adult, so tell the truth. U need to know what's really going on with the GD - if it's an issue, u need to have it managed so as to ensure ur baby is born healthy and happy - that is the most important thing.

I just don't want for something to happen to bub, especially if it was something u could have easily prevented. U don't want to live with that.. I'm not saying something WILL happen, just better safe than sorry..

i had gd and my levels had to be under 5.5 in the morning and under 7.0 2hrs after eating.
i dont know why they are getting you to test if you dont have it???????

i just wanted a healthy baby so i did what i could to try and keep my levels under control.
i did lie twice about my levels but they never checked my machine luckily.
i think i would feel like you too if they ere checking the machine and i hadnt been honest.

i was scared that i was going to have a big baby so that is why i did what i did with my diabetes.

    best wishes for your appt.
