Default Toddler bed or Single bed ?

Another thread on here got me thinking a bit more about moving DS into a bed.
So just wondering, who did the toddler bed thing or who just put them straight in a single bed ?
And any pro's and con's for either ?

    TIA !

All my kids have gone into a normal single bed at around 12 months. I wouldn't bother with a toddler bed unless you are short on space

We'll be going to king singles. I'm not up for spending another 1000+ dollars for toddler beds that will last 2 years if that.

I'll buy beds for their 2nd birthday unless someone climbs out a cot before hand.

DD1 is in a toddler bed converted from her cot. We decided that instead of buying her a whole new bedroom suite and having to move it when we move, that we will buy her single bed suite once we have moved. Otherwise she would have gone straight into a single.

Atm my DD is still in her cot (just turned two) there's no way she's ready for a bed yet.

When she is, initially we'll just leave the side of her cot down for her to get used to it.

When she gets too big for it she'll go into a regular king single bed. Although she likes the confinement of a smaller space, actually.

She's very attached to her cot and so am I! It was mine when I was a bub and my Dad's before me.

We decided to go for toddler beds mainly because we figured we would get plenty of use out of them since our girls were so young needing to move out of the cots. Not having to buy new sheets and blankets and getting more use out of the cot linen was a bonus along with saving some space for a while.

We ended up getting 4yrs out of the toddler beds for our twins. They got new beds for their 5th birthday just before starting school. DD2 (6.5yrs) still sleeps in the toddler bed for sleepovers at grandmas and is still comfortable in it. And DD1 used the toddler bed for about 3yrs. She got her bed not long before starting school as well only started at 4.5yrs.

We didn't spend a lot on the toddler beds. I don't think we would have used them if we couldn't get them at a decent price. (Ours were just wooden ones from toys r us)

My 2 went into regular single beds (DD at 13 months and DS at 8 months) with a bed rail - with DD it came off at about 21 months (I just used a rolled up beach towel under the fitted sheet for a week to remind her where the edge was and she rarely falls out of bed (she is nearly 4) DS still has the rail ATM but I am wonering abotu taking it of in the not to distant future!

We will prob look at a king single when the regular singles give out or maybe doubles depending on finances.
