Default 40 yrs old and TTC#1 with history of endo

I am 40 yrs old and had severe endometriosis removed 2.5 years ago. I have had 2 chemical pregnancies in the last year. I do not want to do IVF, and I am a smoker. What are my chances of live birth by trying naturally? Would the smoking have affected the eggs I have left? I have been TTC for 5 years now. Thank you. MM

    Default 5 years TTC

    Hi Melodymouse,

I think the key issues here is that it has been 5 years that you have been TTC. You have probably always had some endometriosis, but now are facing the issues ( that everybody faces) of running out of eggs, and not all eggs being genetically perfect ( hence the biochemical pregnancies) . IVF is not the holy grail of treatment here, but unless you conceive in the next few years, the chances of having a baby using your own eggs are minimal. I am not sure what your objections are to IVF ( they are varied for different people) but I suggest IVF will give you your best chance of conceiving quickly and hopefully carrying a baby to term. My advice would be not to delay a day longer. See a good FS who you get along well with and start IVF ASAP! Dr Sonya Jessup
