I was diagnosed with epilepsy 5 years ago but have managed to keep it fairly well controlled. I was however aware that pregnant epileptics have a 25-40% increase in seizures during pregnancy and in the days following birth due to changes in blood volume and hormones mostly.
Well yesterday I had a seizure for the first time in 18 months which was not only painful and inconvenient but unusually stressful because afterwards I was worried about my 19 week fetus.
I felt her move after a while and was less worried but I spent 24 hours straight (including ALL night) vomiting and completely unable to hold down even water let alone my medication so I spent today in Casey hospital. They were great. They dripped me straight away, gave me potassium and maxolon which lost effectiveness rather quickly so I then go to experience the magic of ZOFRAN! They gave me a prescription in case I got really sick again but at $30 for 4 wafers I think I'll try and put it off! Awesome stuff though.
Anyway sorry so long was just wondering if anyone else out there experienced an increase in seizures during their pregnancies, and whether they got it under control. Thanks!
