    Default Irritable uterus

Hey guys just wondering how many people out there have been told they have an irritable uterus?

I'd bee having period pains for a few days a fortnight ago (got 2.5 days where they went away) but then they came back Monday last week & haven't eased since.

Sunday night I started noticing painful tightenings with backache associated with the contraction. They ended up disappearing after about 2 hrs so I went to bed. Then same thing started happening more frequently yesterday & bub had slowed down movements from about Sat so up to maternity I was asked to go. After a couple of hours monitoring & scan to check cervix length it was determined that I have an irritable uterus. Contractions at this stage aren't doing anything to further labour. But have been told that I need to rest as much as possible to stop the risk of it developing into pre term labour. Just what I need when I have 2 other children at home with me.

For those that have had it. When did you end up in labour & delivering bub?

I'm kinda scared of how early this is happening as I'm only just 22 weeks.

    Hi TrulyBlessed

I know you were asking for women who've already given birth, which isn't me quite yet... but I figure being 33 weeks along I might as well throw in my two cents.

Since around 16 weeks (around the same time I started feeling movements from bub) I was having contractions every day. I read online that it was common in 3rd trimester and most women got it only a couple of times a day. But for me, a normal day was a good three or four hours of contractions that came every 15-20 minutes.

Anyway, I didn't think much of it until later on when I had unrelated problems and mentioned the contractions to the midwife (TMI, but after DTD I had spotting with contractions that got to 3-4 minutes apart that came regularly for two hours... the contractions all up went for 6 hours til I fell asleep).

That was the first time the midwife suggested I had an irritable uterus, but she didn't say anything about rest.

Anyhow, I know I ain't the person you wanna hear from, I just wanted to let you know that there isn't any risk to the baby, but I'm sure you're gonna have days later on where you think you're starting labour, but really you're not. As the baby gets bigger, I think the contractions feel stronger (not always painful, but it does ache after awhile).

But yeah, try not to worry, for me personally, it's been more of a bother than a worry... besides, Braxton Hick's are meant to be the uterus preparing for labour, so at least you know you'll be ready when it happens :-P I like to think that all these contractions means that when D-Day comes, it'll be a smoother and quicker labour (one can hope, right? )

Take care of yourself though, and if they do kick up, just lay down and relax (it's what I do anyway >.<) All the best!

    Hi
I was told that I had an irritable uterus when I went into pre-term labour at 32 weeks with DD. I needed to stay in hospital for a few days and was told to rest aswell when I got home. As this was my first bubs i could rest and had DH do most of the cleaning.

I didn't go into labour again, but did have contractions nearly everyday.
I had a c/s at 38 weeks due to my health problems at the time.

This time round, I am at a different hospy and haven't been told I have an irritable uterus.

I know it's not much help, and I hope your going well.
