Default what fabric should i use?

i want to make a cot set for my nephew due in januaury, but i am a bit stumped by fabric to use. as it will be summer i was thinking cotton would be good for the sheets. i was thinking of making a matching cot quilt but as it will be summer it would be too warm for any blankets and you dont really use the quilts for bub when they are that young. so which sort of fabrics would be good to use for a newborn's cot set in summer?

you can always check out spotlight and see what kind of fabrics they have.

My mother did something like this when DS was born..but with her age shes gotten a bit worse in her sewing

Flannette/cotton will be good for the sheets and maybe fleecy type for the blankets??

I would go for a nice cotton maybe in a plan colour & then do edging in a nice pattern or the likes where it folds over.
Then get some polar fleece that matches & do blanket stitching for the edges in a contrasting colour so they all match etc.
I had a white sheet set that had pastel green stars on the fold down piece then the blanket i had was a pale blue with pastel green stars so it all matched.
I would head to Spotlight as the pp said cause once you start looking through you will come up with some great ideas !

I've got three kids and my mum always makes the cot sheet sets. You need a good sturdy cotton. if the cotton is to thin after washing it several times ( leeky nappies, chuck and so forth ) it will get thinner and thinner and won't last as long. Something much thicker than a poplin.

I would go for 100% cotton. You are better off going for a natural fabric for bed linen, even pyjamas. More breathable, especially in summer. Also, you can make the cot quilt even though its summer. I bought a beautiful handmade patchwork cot quilt from Ebay which I dont intend to use for the baby - its just for show (its really for me ), so the cot looks all nice and made up. Its just nice. Hey, you could really go nuts and make matching curtains too! Happy sewing!
