Default Y do they give mixed info?

Hi I know I have posted something like this before yesterday I had a 38 week hospital appointment and I was telling them my flu is getting worse. I finished a course of antibiotics on Friday and yesterday it got worse real green nasal discharge. They didn't want to give me anymore antibiotics because they want me try natural stuff although they are aware of my heart condition and I have to be careful of infections on the other hand my gp yesterday gave me another course of antibiotics. Do I take them or do I rake the hospital advice. He gave them to me cause my nasal discharge is really green from my sinus. Throat and chest are fine.
    Really confused and stressed

its easy enough to call the hospital and quiz them on why they think no antib's and what the natural stuff will do. You need to make sure that it is a bacterial infection (green doesn't prove this) so i would ask lots of questions. Maybe go back to your gp and ask WHY they think its bacterial, is there pus, muck, is it viral but borderline bacterial, if so what happens if you wait 24 or 36 hours etc.

From my experience a lot of gp's give antib's cos its expected or they think its borderline. But i knox nothing about your condition. Go back and ark everyone lots of questions. If you're still not sure get a third opinion. :HUGS:

If it is green coming out of your nose this is your bodies way of getting rid of the bug from your system.

And I agree alot of gp's hand out antibiotics at the drop of a hat.

I know where you are coming from though as I too have a heart condition and i have to take antibiotics when in labour and also if i got to the dentist but I refrain from using them at other times unless it is absolutely neccesary.

if your sinus's are blocked you can use a saline nasal spray to help clear out the mucous and to help stop it from going to your chest.

if you have an infection then you should take the antibiotics (providing they are the ones that are safe during pregnancy & you can call mothersafe hotline to check they are).

When you are pregnant your immune system is down & this is why infections are more serious during pregnancy & often GPs will give medication because of this.

If your GP has recommended you take them & they are safe during pregnancy take them. You need to recover in time for your baby.

Yes antibiotics are overprescribed but you can worry about that when you are no longer pregnant & suffering from a health condition- while you are pregnant getting better fast is most important.

You could always try a new gp for a second opinion before you go ahead with them.

Good luck - hope you feel better.

Antibiotics don't fix sinus infections. If anything they make it worse the next time you get one. I used to work in a naturopath clinic and sinus infections were very common presentations at the clinic. Saltwater sinus washes (use a neti pot or dropper) and homeopathics were the usual course of treatment. Speak to a naturopath and give the current lot of antibiotics a wide berth, particularly if they're the same type as last time. If they haven't helped so far they probably won't. Good luck!

I wish you luck for your labour and the arrival of your little one. I hope your pregnancy has gone well?

When I was pg with my DS I had a sinus infection and only used the saline spray and it helped as well as a plug in vaporiser for night time. But no antibiotics. But if you feel you need to take them then you should, but if you don't feel they are helping them give them a miss. You will probably find once bub is born your sinus's will clear up on their own.
