Co-sleepers: did you have problems moving kids out?

Just wondering if anyone had problems moving kids from the adult bed?

There seem to be a few people who think that if babies are allowed to co-sleep, it will be difficult getting them into their own rooms later on.

So did you have problems with that?

I didn't. DD moved out in her own time when she felt she was ready. No rush for me to get her out of my bed, it was all on her terms and she did so without dramas.

I had no problems getting DD to go to sleep in her own bed... getting her to stay there is another matter! I'd say 9/10 nights she comes in with me at some point in the night, which I don't mind at all, I love cuddles

When she stays at her Dad's place she still co-sleeps with him as she doesn't have her own bed there.

i had huge problems.

but i co slept because we had no other choice, he wouldnt sleep otherwise. in the end he was about 3.5, i hadnt had a full nights sleep in 6 months because there was no room in the bed..

it took about 6 months to get him to stop losing the plot for hours on end in his own bed. id hafto lay in there for 2 plus hours pretending to be asleep for him to go to sleep, then as soon as id move he'd wake straight up.. :|

We never co slept with DD, I couldn't sleep with her in the bed and the ex was too deep a sleeper when she was a baby. Cut to 6 years later and she CONSTANTLY wants to sleep in our beds. Bit of a flip side for ya.

co-slept until 9 months with DS.

One night out of the blue he was tossing and turning and wouldnt sleep, so i popped him in his cot and he has happily slept there ever since.


he does sleep in our bed when he is sick, but once again, happily goes back to his bed when he is better again.

we have not had any issues at all.

I've had a lot of dramas with ds but don't put it all down to co sleeping with him for 3.5 years lol he does ok till about 4am and then mummy!!!!!!!!

We co slept with dd2 until just recently, She would not sleep in her own bed at all - we went into a mother and baby unit - and they managed to get her to sleep in her own bed - we had dramas for the first two - three weeks but all sorted now and sleeps well in her own bed.
DD was 8 months when we went into the unit.

I would of liked to have left her until she was ready to move into her own bed.

Nope at about 8-9 months they seemed to be ready and had no difficulty

but if they are scared or sick they (now 3) will crawl into our bed which I think is pretty normal

I remember being scared as a kid and it TO ME would be horrific
to leave them crying and scared in their own bed

I coslept with my mum for 3 years with my older brother at first because that's just what wa normal for her and then because she was a single mum and we literally had nowhere else to sleep and I can tell you
we quite happily went into our own beds when we got them

I mean it's like dummies and nappies how many adults do you see sleeping with their parents

Well yes and no. With DD it wasn't something I was really that fussed about, she just gradually spent more and more time in her own bed. I've tried to push DS into his own room a bit - he is 2 in a fortnight - but I've done it soo gradually, first into a toddler bed next to my bed, then further away, then moved the bed into a room across the hall, etc. He was fine with all that, but comes into my bed at some point during the night (I think around 4-5?). I think this is fairly normal though? Night weaning was much harder.

I don't think it as hard as it would have been to have them sleeping alone as babies, put it that way.
