Thumbs down How safe are Ranitidine or Zantac in last two-three weeks of pregnancy

    Hi everyone,

I am 38/39 weeks pregnant, and heartburn and reflux are keeping me awake at night - and throughout the day.
Eating is a chore, cos i am scared how it will affect my heartburn.

I really need to sleep as I am getting ready for a natural birth, no drugs and stuff and I need all the energy.
Has anyone been using Ranitidine or Zantac in their pregnancy and has i affected the baby in any way?

    Thanks

Zantac is fine to have in pregnancy. I even took it during labour. I was on the Zantac 12 hours tablets. It won't harm your baby. If you aren't sure though you should ask the pharmacist at you chemist. Heartburn is awful so you really should seek some help. Hope this helps.

I was prescribed Ranitidine during the 3rd trimester by my ob/gyn. I used it with both my pregnancies and it gave me the relief that I desperately needed and it had no effects on my babies. They were both born healthy

i had both during my pregnancies and no effects (other than no heartburn)

I think there are 2 types of Zantac one is fine but the superstrength one is not (or something like that) just check with the chemist!

I used Zantac 12hr tablets and found them to be a godsend. The hospital registrar told me they were safe.

Zantac & Ranitidine are the same thing, Zantac is just the brand name.

No you don't need a script. Zantac is an over the counter mediation.

No. I bought it without it.
I still haven't used it, though.... Mylanta helps at the moment, and it's category A.
If I need to, I have it, so it's all good :-)

    Thanks everyone for your posts...
