Hi girls! I hope you all don't mind me jumping in on your thread, I just have a couple of quick questions that I'm hoping some of you can help answer

My first question is when in your cycle are you meant to stop taking DHEA if you are doing IVF or IUI? I will be doing donor IUI in March when AF arrives and not sure when I should stop it. My FS said to keep taking it but I have read conflicting information about this....If I were to keep taking it and got a BFP should I stop once I get the BFP or could that affect my hormone levels and possibly harm the baby?

I was also wondering if it is true about DHEA affecting estrogen levels. How do I know if thats happening to me? So far I haven't really had any side effects from the DHEA. My skin gets a little bad around the time AF, and my cycle have been shorter (about 23 days). Is all this normal or should I ask my FS to re test my levels?
They were only slightly low (3.1, was told they should be at least 4) and I am on 25mg twice a day.

Thank you so much for your help! Baby dust and good luck to you all

I took DHEA for 4 months. You stop the day of Epu or IUI. If trying to conceive naturally, you start testing on day 12 and stop if you get your Bfp.
    Anyway, that was my routine.
DHEA will only work if you are above 35 or are actually low in it. If you are young , have your DHEA levels tested.
    Good luck with your cycle

Hmmm I think I agree with Zwergele, if your body is low on it then you should supplement it. My testosterone was a bit low but DHEA was perfectly ok and so I was taking DHEA with a lot of worry. Mooreover, I have asked FS to prescribe it for me, not that he was the one who suggested. He is very flexible and does whatever I asked him to . And I was the one who went to my regular GP to get my levels tested before taking. I dont think many FS call for test before taking. I wanted to try anything thatt could help me improve egg quality and I think taking DHEA is as far as I have stretched myself to do.

    Hi ladies

I also want to make sure that I have done everything possible to get pregnant using my own eggs before going with an egg donor. That's why I'm trying DHEA even though I'm 29 and have not had my levels tested.

It might not work but it's piece of mind in the long run.

I've been injecting (puregon pen set at 63 so very low dose) for three nights now and already have high oestrogen levels. Whether or not DHEA has had anything to do with this I will never know because there are just too many variables. I'll have my first ultrasound tomorrow and this is my third cycle - I've been on DHEA for over seven months and I'm keen to find out if it made any difference.

Subscribing as it looks like I will be picking up a script tomorrow for DHEA. Hoping it will improve egg quality and maturity.

Where do the Brisbane ladies suggest I buy from? I hear you have to go to a compounding chemist? Are they all pretty similar price wise?

Wazza says it will have some effect straight away but scared to waste a cycle if I cycle too early as many of you seem to wait the 3 months...? I'm so confused though because DHEA may do nothing for me and maybe "add back" is the answer.

    Ladies...

Congrats Mum2oneDS on your BFP, wonderful news... 2012 looking good!
Mum2Chris I am well and not too many symptoms apart from sore (.)(.), very tired and lots of mood swings... looking forward to our scan on Tuesday to see a little heart beat. Still very nervous though! Wonderful news with you 100% fert for your 3 embies...I really do believe DHEA is the wonder drug. Before I started on it, my first round of IVF gave me 7 eggs with only 1 fertilised, then second round with 1 egg only but it did fertilise but with my last round they got 7 eggs and 3 fetilised.
As for when to stop DHEA, my FS told me to continue taking it non-stop until 7 week scan at 75mg per day. After I got my BFP, I decided to reduce to 50mg per day and have since reduced to only 25mg per day...not that I would tell FS. Regards where to buy DHEA, yes only Compoundia Pharmacies and from past posts they are all quite similar in $...
I wish everyone the best of luck for this round and hope we all have babies in 2012. Baby dust to all.

Hi mummyhopes, thanks hun! How many weeks will you be for this scan coming up? Is it going to be the first scan for this pregnancy?

Nicole83, I am in Melbourne so cannot help with compounding pharmacy in Bris, but yes everyone says to get from compounding pharmacy due to better quality control I think, and you need a prescription from your FS. I was on off DHEA for 1.5months and my cycle was 1 month after taking it. MY FN told me it takes 3 months to work so asked me to postpone doing a fresh cycle let it take effect but I told her I cannot wait anymore!

Ladies does anyone on here have pcos and was prescribed DHEA? I'm second guessing it now because everywhere I read suggests not to use dhea on patients with pcos as their testosterone may already be high. So confused.

Mom2oneds...thank you. This Tuesday is my 7 week scan and my last visit (if all goes well) with IVF FS. I then meet with my Obs at 10 weeks where I will have another scan. Very excited! How about you...when are you due?

Nicole83...sorry I can't help regarding PCOS but perhaps you should discuss your findings with your FS before you commence.

    Good luck...XXX
