Default Holiday in Fiji next week - Is it safe for DD

My DD is almost 6 months old and we are going to Fiji for 2 weeks.

On the other hand my mother has been saying that DD will get sick as we are leaving winter and going into summer. She also said that DD will get sick if I take her to the beach as the water is cold.

I do think that DD will be fine. I have bought sun cream and going to make sure that she is slip slop slaped.

I was going to buy a sling to carry her in. DO you think it is worth buying for the water?

Meh, have a great time and don't stress about the whatifs If she gets a cold it isn't the end of the world. She is just as likely to catch a cold if you stay home anyway, all mine have colds at the moment!!

Enjoy, Fiji is AWESOME with kids!!

My DD loves the bath, so I am sure she will love the beach.

What is wrong with taking her into the water?

I wouldn't worry at all, the water temp is around 25'C this time of the year.

Just make sure you take a 'warmer' set of clothes to put on her on the plane home so she's not underdressed when you arrive back here.

    Have a great trip - I'm jealous!

    Default have a blast

Don't worry. Your little one will have a ball and so will you.
Fiji is a fabulous place for little ones, you will get lots of (good) attention and people will be very helpful.
As for the different weather... don't stress. Be sensible about the heat... stay in shade when you can, make sure she has lots to drink (water/ or extra breastfeeds/bottles), hats on, sunscreen.
As for the water, if it is warm enough for you, then it should be fine for the baby. She will really enjoy the pool and the sea. (our daughter certainly did at 6 mths in Thailand....) Maybe just go in for a short while at first to see how she likes it...
    Have fun, I envy you.

I am not sure what my mum is so worried about.

Probably shocked a few people that we are taking our DD at this young age on a holiday and not leaving her behind.

Do I just give her extra breastfeds or also give her water?

When we were is Malaysia and Thailand (35C+ weather) I had both a sippy cup of water (boiled if I was really organised, or just bought from a shop sealed up) which she had a little bit of. (she was starting solids then, so she also tried some banana smoothies, mango shakes from my drink too - she sucked from a straw).
And also gave extra breastfeeds whenever she wanted... or if we had been out and it was hot, we would go inside for a cold drink (for us), I would breastfeed until she had her fill, then offer water afterwards.
    That seemed to work well.
