Yep, that was the whole question. Wondering if it might be healthier or nicer for bubby? He's 5 months old. What do you think?![]()

Not healthier, because rice cereal is fortified with iron (or most are)... nicer... well I don't know really. That's why we're doing baby led weaning this time round![]()

Forgot about the iron, good point!
Am not sure what you mean by weaning? He is still on the breast in my case, just mad for the food. (You should have seen the look on his face as I ate a spoon of my tasty thai dinner, then gave him a spoon of his freshly made organic apple/avocado rice cereal - daggers & frowns galore, then trying to grab at my prawns!).
At 5 months old I was giving my bub the Kids Weetbix all mushed up with some pureed pears or apple mixed in. He loved it and was never keen on the rice cereal. Maybe you could try that?![]()
I'm all for BLW too, although having said that I frequently did give DS puree's thickened with rice cereal too..... he wasn't a fan, he loved porridge and other cereals mixed with the fruit puree though.
ETA search BLW here. It's wonderful but messy. The theory is you let your baby decide what and when they are ready for foods.

weaning just means the transition to solid food (regardless of how much they are still receiving in breastmilk or formula).
babyled weaning (or BLW), is where babies are basically given proper food straight away (so no mash/purees.)
instead its pieces of avocado or skinned tomato, or pasta
and they just learn to eat from that. also means no rice cereal
i wouldn't use rice cereal - cause i've personally tried some, and its disgusting. horrifically badlike cardboard and glue. and babies get all the iron they need from breastmilk while they're still BFing anyway.
Nah, it refers to the slooow process that starting solids leads to - anything past boob/bottle is weaning
BLW is basically giving chunks rather than moosh (there's a sticky on it here: http://www.bubhub.com.au/community/f...d.php?t=145916)

I grownded my own rice for dd instead of buying farex. She hated it. It never tasted cooked. We moved straight onto veggies and fruits and multigrain oats after three attemps
whoopsy daisy! BLW, gotcha - I came to the right place! Well I will try that then, cool, I am actually a bit excited about the concept as this baby seems really keen to give proper food a go.
It's funny, the last one preferred goop, but I get the impression this one is different. Thanks for the info fellow insomniacs!![]()
