Question Tell me everything about Humidifiers!!

As the title states... i want to know everything about humidifyers (spelling?) before i decided whether or not to invest in one

    Pros/Cons?
    Good brands?

My DD has had a terrible cough and runny nose the last few days, and i borrowed a friends humidifyer last night, DD slept great, however i didnt! its so much noisier than i thought!! (we slept together last night)
The one i borrowed last night is HIPPO brand.

    Are they all quite noisy?

Also, this might be a dumb question, but, when i woke up all the bedroom windows were dripping wet from all the moisture in the air... do i just leave it?? is that bad for the walls/paint/doors etc??

I don't have any cons for them. Only pros.
You do need to crack the window when using them & don't use a heater while it's one. My girls room has condenstation of a morning buts that's cause their window is dodgy.

They can be noisy and they can cause mould. It is recommended you open the windows up and air the room during the day to help it dry out, and if you have condensation running down furniture/walls inside after use then use a towell and dry things off asap in the morning.

I've never had mine actually make things wet though, so if yours is doing that I'd be thinking about changing brands.

I don't know what brand mine is - I just asked our local pharmacy for one and they only had the one brand so there wasn't much choice.

The advantages are that it can help reduce the symptoms of croup and night time coughs and colds.

You might want to ask your pharmacy about what brands they stock and what they'd recommend.

Cons would be the mould issues. Keeping them clean with citric acid otherwise they can get scale on them and short

Pros is that they can reduce mucus particularly when mixed with eucalyptus, great for some respiratory issues (not everyone responds to steam for croup or asthma. Luckily for us it works for asthma but unfortunately not for croup)

We just have a cheap Vicks one. I assume it's the same thing as a humidifer... Maybe you're all talking about something else...

Anyway, we only use it when my son is so congested that he can't breathe out of his nose properly, which makes it hard for him to sleep (so not often).

It's not noisy. It just bubbles and gurgles away during the night (we all sleep in the same bed, and it doesn't bother any of us).

Because we don't use it that much, I haven't noticed any mould issues.

You buy the liquid stuff for it from the chemist. There's a few brands.

I think it does help a bit.

We have 2, both different bands. Neither make enough nose to hear them.
