I work for charities, not for profit etc.... I refuse to donate to the Salvation Army. Sure, they do some good things though look at how much is raised a year through things like The Door Knock Appeal as compared to how much assistance they provide. Head Office is a joke when you see the cars in the reserved spots, looks like a luxury car sales yard.

They also used their 'flood appeal' money to build a multi million dollar building in a lower socio economic area, that actually ostracises people from entering. There was little to no consultation with the hard working small not for profit services in the area to identify real need. Their cafes suck and are way overpriced, give out a free sandwich occassionally instead of charging $8.50 for microwaved chicken pieces and some lettuce. Meanwhile the said sandwich is made my 'trainees' making $7.00 an hour.

I know people boycott Kmart, though their brand new tshirts for children are cheaper than the Salvos in my state charge in their 'op' shop for used clothing for children.

World youth day in Sydney 2008 brought in more visitors and tourists than the 2000 games but didn't cost anywhere the same amount.

I also refuse to support any sporting group or association.

I'd be more concerned about the money the government, federal and state, spent funding world youth day. What a colossal waste of funds. I find it unethical that a secular society funds such activities. All that money spent on a religious event and the distribution caused to the ppl living in Sydney at the time.
If the Catholic Church wants to hold an event they should pay for it themselves. Goodness, they have enough dough!!

I boycott all companies I know have ties to religious organizations. Fair some do good things for the community etc but I believe you can do these activities from being a good a person and wanting to help people, why spread an agenda whilst your at it?

I'd see if there is a facebook group that sell or barter excess from their gardens and animals.

I had forgotten about that. Shame, as their iced coffees are so yum! Ah well, probably not a bad thing to cut back on my caffeine intake...
