But I thought it was illegal for chickens etc to be 'caged' in Australia (like they're caged in america, with heaps of chooks shoved into tiny little cages?)

I live rural and we have the bayada (Sp?) chicken farm just out of town and the chickens aren't 'caged' but are kept in sheds for their entire lives,
Is this what is ment by caged?
Unfortunately this is EXACTLY how most egg chickens in Australia spend their lives! The chickens that you see are probably classes as free range, if they have "access" to outside (even if it is a little door in the side that only a couple can find because the barns are so full and large)

We buy free range meat/eggs etc. We buy in bulk directly from the farm.

I read a few of you are from SA- do you goto the farmers markets at the show grounds? all organic, gluten free etc.
We grow veggies, due to price increases & don't believe in anything thats been in plastic.

I want to know where everyone buys there petrol from? because it seems everyones running out of places to buy it from

We have one servo in our location and that is BP or some dodgy place about 2 hrs out of town that adds water to there fuel

My friend works at coca cola, he says when the coke goes in the bottle the bottle is blue and the coke turns it clear. YUCK!

I boycott the Advertiser (Adelaide's main newspaper) in the sense that I won't ever buy it because I dont want them to have any of my money. i do read it in the coffee shop because there arent too many other ways to get local news.
The reason I boycott it is the reporting is generally very right wing biased and anti-green, and generally very sexist. Also its written in a very inflamatory style, the main aim of the articles is to get people worked up about how unfair something is rather than just inform them about whats going on!

I try to avoid products which are advertised or marketed in a really sexist way.

I also avoid eggs from battery hens. you cant always tell if you buy something whether it has egg in it, but I only buy rspca free-range eggs and we are building a chicken coop and run in our back yard, that way I'll know the eggs are cruelty free

So many insights!!! Might have to start doing more research into what I buy!!

I don't buy any coffee from big chains their coffee tastes crap and I like to support small local business who sell GOOD coffee!! (which is very few in Hobart!) I will be avoiding Gloria Jeans for sure!!!

I don't buy bonds for obv reasons, anything bonds has been given to us, not to mention they're so expensive!!! Same with Johnsons products, really not a fan of those, we still have some untouched!

I am trying to buy more decent toys and avoid the cheap nasty plastic stuff now.

I hate chickens they scare the crap outa me!! Having said that I can't bring myself to buy cage eggs!!! I get my eggs from my sisters chickens when I can. We also try to grow our own produce when we can and between us, my parents and my sister we have a lot of fresh fruit and veg.

Oh and I have nothing nice to sy about vodafone, they can bite me!! Their customer service is s*** their reception is worse and their online or automated over the phone service is a nightmare. I can't wait to be rid of them!!

I like to op shop too if that counts!! )

Really enjoying these links tho!! Looks like I got lots of reading to do!!

As with most I try to avoid these companies where I can. I will spend the extra $5 on groceries each week to get real milk and 100% Aussie F&V.
Also I will NEVER use a 'self serve' checkout, Every time one is used that's a person the company won't employ not to mention that you can enter and leave a store and not speak to a person. It's like they are Saying "get in get what you want give us your money but don't expect service"
Has anyone else noticed that manned checkouts are never opened or only one, forcing you to use self serve.

I buy free range eggs. I don't like the thought of caged chickens

I would buy them straight from the farm if I knew someone who had chickens

Only ever use free range organic eggs - they taste better and last longer anyway. - same with chicken & meat organic animals don't need to be pumped with chemicals.

With BP that was one mans choice & it was wrong also the company who put the well together was at fault. Keep in mind that BP have a refinery in Brisbane and it has much higher standards than other brands and the petrol is therefore better for your cars. As for shell - keep in mind they own smaller gas companies such as Arrow in Australia so if your boycotting them remember to not use your stove...

I hate self serve at the supermarkets- having to pull all items on the scale

I know that we aren't in America, but a lot of people on here buy online etc and American apparel is a brand that I used to buy before having kids. *edit... actually this brand IS in australia now, so beware!**

I just read this article about the founder... http://www.news.com.au/business/entr...-1226018176958

basically he is in trouble for making one of his teen workers his s e x s l a v e, but also his antics have been going on for a long time. His advertising usually features what can only be described as t e e n p o r n to sell his clothing, and ex employees are coming out saying that he did things like held meetings naked and made a lot of s exual references to under aged girls etc.

Completely disgusting! Won't be buying his clothes ever again!
