Baby bonus Query!

hey everyone, Im having my first kid in bout 6weeks time (really scary).. and was just wondering how the baby bonus thing works whether it goes into the mums account automaticly or if they ask how youd like it to happen because ideally it should go to the mums incase the father may not be around.. so how does it work???

umm.......... from memory you have to fill out a form to get it

You get forms in the hospital (hospital will fill in a certain part to verify you had a baby and you fill in the rest) you take the forms down to centerlink/family assistance (or your partner can do it for you) and then the money goes straight into your account within a few days (ours went in the next day)...........it goes into whatever account you nominate for it to go into.

mine took 2weeks

oh but it was nice wen i checked the balance

but then into savings

mine went in 2 days after i handed in the forms

and they also put me onto parenting payment at the same time

From memory I think it's once you fill in all the birth details and register your child - you get the relevant forms from hospital (because they have to sign off saying you had a baby). I did all the forms together (registered the little one with Medicare and Birth Registry) and soon after that it just went straight into my bank account. I think it is the same bank account that you have nominated with Medicare.

Yep - hospital gave me the form to complete which I then posted off. Centrelink then phoned me a couple of times over the next few weeks wanting to know exact dates of when we were overseas in the previous 3 years (thank god I kept my itineries for some reason or I would have no clue)..............and we got the payment about a week after that........so ours took quite a while. Bit slack in SA by the sounds of it.

I filled out a single form that registered Hugh for Medicare and was an application for Maternity Payment and Family benefits.
I posted it on Saturday in Adelaide.
Tues a woman rang me to ask for our tax file numbers and bank account details of the person who filled out the form. I did ask it to be put in to my husband's account but they insisted it went in to mine as I did the form.
I rang her back Tues arvo, and to my amazement got the same woman! Friday the money was there. Pretty quick I thought.
