    Question Time for a better...

    Hello Ladies,

DH and I are in the market for a new camera. We have always had your standard sorta $200 digital camera but we want something better that takes a much better photo...and takes a quicker photo. We keep missing DD in her cutest moment because our silly camera takes forever to actually take the picture.

So I was wondering what people recommend. We are by no means professional photographers but would still love to get a better quality shot if possible.

    Any help would be great.

It all depends on how much you want to spend!!

The Canon G11 is a great point and shoot for a reasonable price - you'd love the photos from that. And it has manual mode too so you can have more control too.

You can spend a lot more and get a DSLR but it's all dependant upon how much time you want to spend learnign how to use it. TBH if you don't know how they work you don't get good photos and it's not worth spending the money. You have to be willing to put in a bit of time and practice I guess. (tha'ts my opinion anyway)

I agree totally with what Cordelia said

My recommendation would be the Panasonic Lumix range - the higher end ones (around $600) will let you go manual and get creative without the complexity and cost of a DSLR. I had one when they first came out and I loved it.

But search for reviews on anything you think you might like and then go and have a play with one at the shop before you make your mind.

we have a canon g10 (obviously now superseded by the g11! ) and the automatic mode is great, its quick to take the shot, and always takes a good one, great colours. I did start using the manual mode but i'm a total novice and i'm 2 short of time 2 do it any justice, so auto it is! I highly recommend it!
