    Default Vitex and Elevit

    Hi Gabriela,

I was just wondering if it was ok to take Elevit along with the Vitex I am taking to regulate my cycles? We are trying to conceive our first child but since being off the pill have had irregular cycles (currently without a period in 4 months) so for the last 2 months stopped I've stopped taking Elevit and have been taking just vitex instead. Is it fine to take both of these at the same time?

If I find that Vitex isn't helping (I will give it a few more months), can you suggest another over the counter herb that might help? I am currently sorting out health insurance waiting periods before I go to a naturopath.

    Thanks, Courteney

    Hi there Courtney,

    Great questions!

For the most part yes you can take Elevit and Vitex together, there are no contra-indicated interactions.

What you may find though is that Vitex on its own may not be as effective as a customised herbal medicine prescription, personalised to you.

Because this is the way I work with my prescriptions I customise them specifically for each person, I cannot recommended random over the counter prescriptions because they are often not specifically indicated and not knowing anything about your medical history and current health any recommendations made to you in this vein would not be of service to you.

I’d recommend you consult with a naturopath at your earliest convenience and be sure to give yourself a good 4-6 month period of treatment before making a judgement on the effectiveness of treatment because it may take about that long for your to see absolute changes.

However, there are certain herbs that can be prescribed that will help to balance your cycle whilst you are trying to conceive that are not contra-indicated in pregnancy—hence the need for a proper consultation as soon as possible.

Finally, you may like to listen to some of the previous educational teleclasses I’ve got on my website. These resources will help you greatly on your preparation to creating a healthy baby.

    I hope this helps.
