Default No AF after stopping the pill

    Hi Gabriela,

I was put on the pill when I was 13 as my periods were very heavy and I vaguely remember that they were long-lasting and frequent. I have never been overweight but do have bad acne so I'm wondering if PCOS could be a consideration?

After almost 15 years on the pill I stopped taking it at the end of February to try and conceive. I had my usual withdrawal bleed but have not had a period since. I am currently at CD75 and am recording my basal temperature (my chart is in my signature below) which shows no sign of ovulation and I have not had any cramps or feelings near my ovaries to suggest they are functioning.

I was thinking of giving my body another 2 weeks and then going to see my doctor. To me, 3 months without a period feels wrong though I have heard that many doctors don't worry until at least 6 months. Do you know if there are any tests that I should ask for in particular?

Also, do you have any suggestions as to why my body is taking so long to start working again and how I could give it a kick-start? My weight is not a problem and I eat well, though I know I could do with some more exercise.

    Many thanks,

    Hi Ziara,
These are great questions and you may want to refer back this previous/‘related’ post:
    http://www.bubhub.com.au/community/f...d.php?t=339559

Given the length of time you have been on the pill and also the age at which you were put on it can sometimes mean that the body needs a little more of a push to regulate naturally. Especially since given your age when you started on the pill, your reproductive cycle would not have had the opportunity to mature into a solid routine and therefore your body is now literally having to ‘re-learn’ what to do... all these years later.

It’s great that you are charting your cycle and to answer your first question. Yes, PCOS may be playing a role in your situation, which I have found clinically, can sometimes be ‘triggered’ by being on the pill.

Regardless of the reason why your cycles right now are irregular, there are a few things that can be really useful for you:

    · In my practice, I find herbal medicines to be indispensable in helping to regulate a woman’s cycle and would highly recommend it in your case. I’d recommend you find a specialist naturopath and/or herbalist in your area to assist you with this. (You may need a little persistence and eventually you will notice your efforts do pay off!)
    · In addition, using therapeutic visualisation and the mind-body connection to help regulate your cycles and increase the chances of conception can be so powerful. I highly recommend you check out this special program http://naturalfertilitybreakthrough....dscirclebloom/
    · A good lifestyle, a healthy diet and regular exercise are other very important aspects you need to ensure are part of your daily routine.

If you need any further support or advice, just let me know. I’d be delighted to assist.

    I hope this helps.
