    Default Bunny rabbit

Hi bunny rabbit. I'm not sure what the rules are for defacto relationships are. I will say that I am married and this process has taken us almost 1 1/2 years now and we're still not registered. It has been difficult for us to provide all the evidence for medical stuff, chase up doctors and specialists, obtain and provide all the documentation, complete endless amount of forms - repeating stuff we've already sent in etc etc.
I am saying this so that you are aware that this process is not an easy one. Not for anyone or any situation. It doesn't get any easier either.
It is time consuming, emotionally consuming, frustrating with the waiting, and waiting and waiting.
So if you've just been to the info session and are ready to give up now, maybe that is the right choice for you at this point in time. Because there is nothing quick or easy about this process. I'm not sure how old you are or what your situation is, but maybe you have time to try other options. My husband and I have tried all other options with traumatic consequences. This is our only option now and so we're willing to put in the hard yards to get to the end.
Maybe in a few years this might be your only option too.
Either way, I wish you luck on your journey. Whether it is still with adoption or with another path. 🙂

Hi Bunnyrabbit, my partner and I are defacto and successfully adopted. If you have joint bills, tenancy agreements and stat decs from family and friends we found that that was enough

Thanks Muzzy, we got the call on the Monday and were planned to start a five day transition with the foster carer the next Monday but were in the middle of moving house so fast tracked that (amazing what you can accomplish when you need to) and moved that weekend. We started transition a week later, so roughly a fortnight after the call. Last time we started transition about four days after our call.
So it's full steam ahead once you get the call.

Each time it's been me they called. I think you could nominate who you'd prefer to get the call ( if you want to have that battle with your hubby!! ) but they tend to call the female from what I've seen. A bit sexist but I was happy with it on this occasion

    Hi Penny.
I think stat decs from family is not in current requirement. Also joint bills.
Very limited documents can be use and they don't tell us until we go information session.
Wish we didn't wait for jump in this so long. I wish I find this group earlier and I could ask everyone earlier what documents we will need for proof....

I had couple m/c, failed IVF and I'm 40 so not much hope left.
We just feel we miss lead for adoption hope. DHS only take those few documents for proof of Defacto relationship is like a joke. They don't even see us tried IVF together as Defacto. They don't see we have joint Medicare card as Defacto etc.
No wonder not many people move to next step after information session

Hope your process can go forward soon, -adorelgc
