It is with a heavy heart I post this update. We have now been approved for almost 12 months and have not had that magic call. We keep in regular contact with our workers but we don't know if we have been put forward to any birth families. We will find this out at 12 month review.
In planning for our 12 month review dh and I have been talking about our game plan. We are not ready to give up our hope of having a family and we know our workers will ask us if we have considered other options. Way back when we went to our information sessions we also looked at permanent foster care but did not pursue because of some of the restrictions placed on foster parents. We are now back at considering that option.
I would love to hear anyone's experiences with permanent foster care. We are not opposed to caring for children who have had a traumatic background or special needs. Given both our backgrounds there are some circumstances we would embrace.
In the meantime we try and keep up hope that we will be parents.
Thanks in advance for any information.
I'm so sorry to hear you have not been placed yet Walhalla. I've been following your posts here for a long time now and had hoped you had good news.
I think you are so right to keep hope and to also think about other options.
I have no advice or information on PC but wishing you all the best and hoping you get your call very soon. X

Thanks for the tip about confidentiality and suggestions of when to tell others about applying/approval. Some things I hadn't thought of so that's very useful. Does anyone have any idea how long it takes to initially get an invite to the information session? Is there a waiting list for that? Thanks

    Hi Walhalla,

When I saw that you had posted a message I was quite excited to read it but instead felt really sad to know that you and hubby have not received that call yet.

Although I don't have experience with Permanent Care, I do know a little about it because after seven months into our wait, my husband and I started to consider it as another way to make our family, so we went to an information session. Our office informally booked us in without going through proper channels of paperwork, wait times, etc.

We left feeling pretty positive and here were some things that stood out to me. It may be helpful in some way.
    The child is your own.
The child is yours and no sane judge will take them from your loving home to give back to their birth parents no matter how hard the birth parents try.
We were told that we can't change the child's name as you can for adoption, but they have noticed that most kids insist on writing their Christian name with your surname. So the children also (usually) identify themselves as your child and you as Mum and Dad.
Obtaining a passport for your child is easier than people think. Although I had read quite the opposite so someone with experience may share more about this.
Finally, some PC placements can lead to adoption.

I hope this helps a little and I hope you come out of your review meeting with renewed hope. Remember we are here for you.

    Best wishes,

    Bubbles

    Hi Sophie

I've been looking through the forum...i was wondering if it was you that put up that you were a surrogate. Our family is desperate for a baby. We were blessed with somewhat of a miracle a few years ago when I fell pregnant and even though we've tried constantly for over 5 years and due to my health I cant risk falling pregnant myself. I am at a loss, no altruistic surrogates are stepping up in Sydney, we cant use an agency because of the cost involved and I've contacted adoption agencies but as you are aware that takes a long time. I don't know what to do anymore...another child would be amazing and bring such joy not only to myself but to my husband and daughter.

    Hi Everyone,
I have been in this thread before but decided to go some more fertility treatment, that proved to be unlucky so we have finally decided that this is the journey for us!! We have been to the info session back in Jan 2015 so we can now send in for the training sessions, do you know what paperwork we need to show from the fertility specialist? We have a letter stating the last date we had any appointment is that enough?
looking forward to sharing the journey with you all!

Hi Muzzy, that's great news that you have decided to adopt. I think it's a great thing to do and have always wanted to adopt myself. I can't answer your question about the fertility treatment as this is not my situation but just wanted to reply so you know this thread is still active. So you went to an information session back in January 2015. Did they invite you to the training sessions after that? Or did you let them know you were going to hold off? Good luck with getting to the next information session. I would be interested to hear about it when you go.

    Hi Muzzy,
    Welcome aboard!
From memory, we just had a letter too from our IVF doctor stating what date we stopped. That was all we needed. Good luck and hopefully hear some good news soon.
    Cheers, Macks

Thank you Jazzercise, yes we got invited to the training but decided to go with more treatment! Now we can go straight onto the training as the information session was less than 2 years ago!
Thanks Macks!! How are you doing? I know we discussed some things last time I was here :-)

Hi Muzzy, all good on our front. We are still waiting for a call for placement for our second adoption. I'm feeling a little anxious because it's been a longer wait this time (7 months and counting) but I know we were so lucky with the first adoption being placed 3 months after we were approved. So for now we get to pour all our love and attention on our little girl. So glad to hear you are starting this process and hope you get to pour your love into a little being yourself very soon. My fingers and toes are crossed for you!
    X Macks

Wow the wait must be hard!! Did you have to go through the whole process again for number 2?
