    Question Overfeeding BF baby

    Hi there
I am so proud to be posting in this section on a positive note- with DD I had a horrid BF experiance (nothing working lots of stress in my life and many feeding issues and was 100% bottle by about now)

but I was determined to give it a go with this baby and wow so far so good
however my little boy is well hmmm not so little he is a big boy... he was born 4.465 and lost a bit in the first few days but then at his one month check had put on 2 kg and has put on another 1.1kg this month.. needless to say he is off the size charts and everyone thinks he is alot older..

now dont get me wrong i think its great he is 'thriving'(as chn puts it) and it is doing wonders for my BF confidence considering I have had an aggressive breast reduction about 10 years ago and had such a bad experiance with DD.

But I have always heard you cant over feed a breastfed baby- is this true?... not that I am considering limiting his feed or anything but just want to make sure my little man cant do damage by eating so much and gaining weight so fast...
he is fed on demand - during day can go up to 3 hours between feeds at night has 9 hours sleep then feed followed by 3 hour sleep. so he really isnt feeding a huge amount.

Nno no, he's fine. If he follows the usual breastfed baby pattern (which obv varies widely) then he will really pork up til about 4 mths, then taper off a bit as a rough guide.

Enjoy your baby and don't worry!

thanks for that- i am enjoying and loving my bubs little chunky bits and rolls-- .. but with people always commenting on how huge he is (like he is some mini sumo even though i dont think he is that big) - it got me thinking.. but im sure people would be making similar but opposite comments if bubs was little which would prob get to me too- you really cant win in the world of parenting

Nope, you cannot overfeed a breastfed baby. It all sounds ok. Our CHN tried to talk me into weaning heaps of times because she gained too much weight, gained not enough weight, fed for "too long" each feed, didn't feed "long enough" each feed, she just didn't like people breastfeeding. She tried to convince me at one stage that DD wasn't getting enough and at other times she would say I was overfeeding her and needed to wean her onto formula to regulate her intake but no, you cannot overfeed a breastfed baby.

My daughter was a little fatty She is skinny as now. Once she started walking she thinned right out. Breastfed babies are exactly how they are meant to be, provided there are no other underlying conditions, but that's rare.

    he sounds perfect

i love the chubby little boob babies
they'll slim down once they start using the fat they're storing for movement. and until then, its just so fun to pinch their chubby cheeks, and thighs
