We have consolidated all of our debts under a consolidation loan, but it's through our bank. It's a personal loan with a lower interest rate than most. We are saving a bucketload on interest, as each other debt had its own interest rate (we previously had separate car loans, a personal loan through GE and credit cards - all the wasteful spending of our younger days ). Not only are we saving money on interest, but we only have ONE loan to pay each month, as opposed to heaps. We also chose a shorter loan period, to get it out of the way quickly. And a personal loan doesn't affect your credit history at all (provided you pay it off as required!)

I would never go into a debt agreement in this situation

You can go for a bank or a financial institute to consolidating your debts into one loan. In such a case, the bank or financial institution will pay off all your debts and Make sure you should shop around because interest rates are different. It is important to stop buying on credit.
