Hi,

I was just wondering, hubby and I have been TTC for the past 20 months now, I've had a laparoscopy done and I have a uterine fibroma on the outside of my uterus, about 6cm in diameter. It could not be operated on due to a large blood supply, so my specialist wants to shrink it first and has suggested Zoladex implants. What is your opinion of this treatment, and is there a natural way to reduce the size of the fibroma?

Hi there Jussi,

I’m sorry to hear you are having troubles conceiving.

Firstly, you need to know if the location of the fibroma is the cause of your conception difficulties. In most cases fibroids and fibromas themselves are not exactly the real cause of the problem. However, fibroids (and fibromas for that matter) are often a sign of oestrogen dominance, which can be linked to a series of possible factors that negatively impact your ability to conceive.

There are definitely natural treatment methods to help get your body back into balance and personally I believe herbal medicines and specific nutritional supplements are indispensable in this situation. I’d recommend you find a naturopath that can work with you to address this situation.

In the meantime here are some things that will also help greatly:

· Normalise your weight if necessary—fat tissue exacerbates hormonal imbalances and produces more excess oestrogen (which is definitely what you don’t need!). In addition we tend to keep a lot of toxins in excess fat tissue too!
· Avoid all plastics in your environment use glass bottles and food containers; avoid all cling wrap and plastics in your foods all together if you can;
· Drink only filtered water (good quality water filter at most 0.01-0.05 microns)—unfiltered waters is riddled with excess hormones and other toxins that can negatively impact your fertility;
· Eat only organic chicken, eggs, meats and dairy. Also reduce the amount of dairy products and fatty meats in your diet (remember the link between fat and estrogens)

These are some great ways to get started and remember, it will take time to see a big difference on the size of the fibroma (usually 6-12 months). However, it often only takes about 120 days to dramatically boost your combined fertility for the best chances of a healthy conception, pregnancy and baby. Also keep in mind your partner needs to make some changes too in order to optimise your conception chances!
