Default Sitting up and falling back

DS is 8 months old and can sit up well unattended. I usually put a U shape pillow behind him, but sometimes he moves around and then falls back on his head.
He is sitting on carpert (rug) with another mat ontop.
Is it 'bad' that he falls back on his head? I cant be there to catch him everytime (even though I am watching him...really?!)

Just wait 'til he's trying to walk! I think children are designed to cope with a few bangs to the head, and you are doing your best to negate that.

I think he will be fine, and before you know it he won't fall down any more.

we got the most bumps when DD started pulling herself up!! It doesn't take long for them to get the hang of things.

DS is 8 months too and bumps his head on everything. He sits up on his own but he is still fairly wobbly, so he often falls backwards. He is also trying to crawl and often faceplants (i'm worried about him knocking his teeth out )

I think it's a whole part of their learning process, and I doubt nature would give them heads that couldn't tolerate a few bumps and knocks

I think he'll be ok as long as he doesn't bump his head on anything dangerous like a sharp corner of a table or whatever. Nathan sometimes falls backwards, he has a cry and then he's fine (after a few cuddles)

Hi, my DD is 8 months and often falls backwards from the sitting position. She actually has never had a hard fall, she just always rolls or plays straight away. I think she deliberately rolls backwards to get where she wants to be. I agree with a waterlily ... bubs are definately harder than we give them credit for!

I think they need to fall to learn how to move, we can't be there to catch them all the time and they need to learn about movement and their body and what happens. As long as he isn't going to bang his head on a coffee table etc then a fall onto the carpet isn't going to do any major harm. Often when they do fall if you sit back and watch they recover quite quickly and roll around to find a toy or look at something else - again it's part of how they learn.
