    Default All-in-one vaccines

    Hi,

We had our DS vaccinated at 2mths and 4mths - we didn't have any vaccinations at birth.

He is now 7mths and I have delayed his 6mth vaccinations because I didn't like what I'd read about the mixed, or all-in-one vaccines (like DTP and MMR).

I'd like to know if it's possible to have these vaccinations separate (eg. if I go to a gp and get them as individual vaccines rather than the mixed bag they give).

We thought if this is possible, we'll get them done one at a time with a break between them.

    Has anybody done this?

    Thanks

The 2 and 4 month vaccines are DTP and HiB. The DTP (as you know) is 3 vaccines in one. So, I'm confused - did he have the DTP? Or just the HiB and polio? I think in some states the polio vaccine is now in with the DTP (because it isn't oral anymore).

You can request for 3 separate vaccines. I am pretty sure you will be charged for this, though. But it is definitely possible. If a doctor tells you he can't do it, go to a different doctor.

He had the DTP vaccines at 2 and 4mths, but then we found out about the potential risks with all-in-ones, and weren't willing to let any more be given to our little boy. The polio one is included in that vaccine now.

Glad to hear we can request it. We're willing to pay for it. We've got his 8mth appt with the health nurse tomorrow, so I'll ask her about doctors in the area that she knows may do this. Our health nurse is very open-minded

Our GP has been on leave due to having an op. I'm sure he would have done it but he's not back for another month or two. Plus he's a one hour drive away (yes, he's that good )

Thanks again the_queen! That's a few times now you've been at the ready with the answers I want

Having the polio separately means you may be given the live virus so make sure you request to have the dead injection which is the salk because you run the risks with using the live oral vaccine which is called the sabin.
    Good luck
