Question Chaste Tree (Vitex) whilst Breastfeeding

Is it safe to take Chaste Tree supplements (Vitex) whilst breastfeeding? I have a 15month old who still feeds quite regularly - even though he is also on solids - and I would dearly love to conceive naturally this time without having 'help'. It's been 2 years since my last period, but just as I was starting to give up hope, AF came on Friday. Is vitex as effective as Clomid?? and when should I start taking it (if it is indeed safe)? Sorry, so many questions. Is there a higher chance of hyperstimulation too if you take vitex??

    HI there Becca29,
Vitex is much gentler and works in a slightly different way to clomid (no real chance of hyperstimulation). It can be safe during breastfeeding and without wanting to assume and just going by what you’ve mentioned in your question.... if you had ‘help’ last time because either unovulation or PCOS—you will need a much more comprehensive natural treatment approach than just vitex on its own.

It’s vital to also address lifestyle choices and diet if PCOS is involved. In addition, if you want to get your regular cycles back for conception attempts, you may also need to consider weaning your first child for best results.

It is also essential that you work with a practitioner that can guide you. I would not recommend self-prescription.

I hope this makes sense. Let me know if you have any further questions or need any clarification.
