It can last up to 5 days in fertile cervical fluid and in non-fertile fluid not so long. I think its only an hour or so outside of the body.
If it's only an hour outside a body how do they do accurate morphology tests? (genuine question anyone know?)
I think it is a controversial one. I have data in one of my lectures that says anything from 72 hours to seven days. I think about 3-4 days in the crypts of the cervix is usually the maximum. As for out of the body - it depends on the conditions, temperature etc. Most condoms have spermicide and so they won't live for more than a few minutes.
Thanks to everyone.
And I have always wondered also how they do sperm analysis if they die off so quick. hmm, off to do some research I guess..
When you do a semen analysis, they have to be tested within 2 hours. And the sperm is still alive.
One of my DH's semen analysis's, they didnt test it until 3 hours afterwards and there was still 'some' alive but not much.
If kept at body temp, they live longer.
Another Questain if you dont mind me butting in Silentrockfaery
Are you able to see the sperm with a saliva scope like a Maybe baby?
My friend tried but couldnt see anything, but i tried and i could swear i saw some little dots moving around all over the place!
Wondering if anyone else has tried it and what they saw
