Default need some advice please ladies....

    Hi ladies

I've just started trying dd (5 months in a week) with some farex mixed with formula a few days ago. She's been showing signs that she's ready ie watching us eat, sitting up well supported and yesterday she got so excited when my freind was feeding her 8 month old.

The first time I tried her, she loved it. She didn't have much but opened her mouth when i moved the spoon there, and swallowed a bit. However, the last 3 times I've tried (which have been an hour or so after finishing her bottle) she has not been interested at all, ie not opening her mouth and spitting it out. Although today I probably should have waited until after her sleep as she got tired as I was making the farex up, so that will explain today.

Do you think I should wait and try her again in a few days or so? Or do you think I should try again tomorrow? Maybe she isn't ready after all. Have I just answered my own question, lol??!!

maybe try again tomorrow perhaps. coop never liked farax so we went onto rafferties which was much better and more flavours to choose from. you could also perhaps do some pureed veges. coop absolutely loved beans all pureed and would eat them til the cows came home when he was about 7mths old(wasnt having all that many solids at that point as he wasnt interested)
i cross all bridges with joy and ease.
the "old" unfolds into wonderful new experiences.
my life gets better all the time

She may just not be really ready for solids (does she still have the tongue thrust reflex?), or she may have been tired. Or she may not fancy wallpaper paste. Have you ever tasted Farex? Yuck.

I use pureed vegies as a first food.

My DD also didn't like the taste of Farex. I think now there is a flavoured Farex available you could try. I gave her pureed pumpkin & she loved it.

I never used Farex, I think (excuse the baby brain!lol) I used Rafferties also, or just pureed fruit, apple & pears I found the easiest at 1st & then I used to mix rice ceral with the fruit...

But that said I would wait until tomorrow to try again, starting off can be a slow process. Good Luck!

I have this problem with DD too. I was mixing apple in with the farex and also using the flavoured farex but she doesnt like it. So now i just give her apple and tomorrow will try pear.

    Maybe just ditch the farex.

thanks ladies. yeah i think i'll hold off again until tomorrow, and i might actually try some pureed apple or maybe carrot instead. Farex is pretty horrible stuff!! No wonder DD doesn't like it!!

Does it really matter if we just go straight on to pureed fruit and veg instead? All the stuff I've read says you should start with the rice cereal.

Farex (or any of the baby cereals really) are gross! They have the same consistency as wallpaper paste, not to mention the same taste!

Maybe try your bub on something with a bit more flavour, like some puréed veg.

I tried giving DD some Farex a few times when I started her on solids and she kept spitting it back at me... I finally realised why when I tried it myself!
Actually the first 2 lots of solid food DD actually swallowed was naan bread dipped in a korma sauce and a bean from a beef stirfry. Guess she just had the same tastes as me!
    He (29), Me (27) and DD (1) make 3!
    But wait... there's more!
Now our little family is 4!

A lady in my birthgroup posted an interesting link about solids. Something called baby led weaning. Im very tempted to start doing that when DS is ready for solids in about 1-2 months time. Check it out: http://babyledweaning.blogware.com/

BLW ( baby led weaning ) is great read up on it and it may be just what your dd wants and you will cop flak and pl saying stuff about choking etc but in the end you dont leave them unsupervised to start with and watch there every move and you will get shocked looks when you say no my baby doesnt eat puree she chews you will get looked at like you have 2 heads but like i said BLW is great
