    Default Due Date?

I wrote on another thread but with no luck.

My daughter has just found out she is pregnant after losing her first born son last year at 34 weeks.

A very exciting but apprehensive time.

We are trying to find out an estimated due date but every calculator comes up with different dates?

She has a 42 day cycle and her last period was on the 28.2.10. her stick test's x 2 were VERY CONCLUSIVE and she is already with early symptoms so we are keen to get as accurate feed as possible due to health reasons?

    Hello JeanP,

What heartbreak! I’m sorry to hear that.

Ok, here’s the situation if all the information you’ve given me is correct (of course it would be!). Here are the dates give or take 2 days. However, a dating scan at approximately 8 weeks would be the most accurate for all intents and purposes...

Conception date (2 weeks before your next menstrual period): Friday 26 March 2010
Second Trimester (weeks 12-27): Friday 04 June 2010
Third Trimester (weeks 27-40): Friday 17 September 2010
Estimated Due Date (40 weeks full term): Friday 17 December 2010

The differences occur because the start of a pregnancy is generally calculated from the start date of a woman’s last menstrual period (LMP), or day 1 of the cycle. A pregnancy is measured in gestational weeks, as opposed to being calculated from the actual day of conception.
Counting from the first day of a woman’s last menstrual period date, there are 40 gestational weeks of pregnancy. Assuming a 28 day cycle, on day 14, and at the start of gestational week 3, a baby has just been created and by the end of gestational week 3, the baby is ‘one week old’.

Best wishes and best of luck this time around!

    I hope this helps!

Let me know if you have any further questions.

    Default Due date?

    Dear Gabriella

Firstly my sincere apologies for not saying thank you as soon as you replied (extremley rude and my apologies ) As per your calculations she should be 9 weeks but when she went to have her confirmation of pregnancy (very quick scan but definite sac and heartbeat)some weeks ago they indicated she was 6 weeks making her now11 weeks-which they would be working on assumption of 28 day cycle I assume and based on your workings she should be only 9. I agree with yours as I know she was not pregnant the week before as she tested.
She is far sicker than last pregnancy and extremly tired (excessive) and this has been going on for a couple of weeks now and getting worse.
She is showing, but we just assumed that was because she had already had a baby?
We are very happy she is so sick and tired as her hormone levels are obviusly working and going well?
I am asking because I am going to go with her to her OB/GYN next week and I want to make sure I ask "LOTS" of questions, given the tragedy of last year and as I had all my babies premmie (last one 8lb 6oz at 34 weeks) and early labour from 28 weeks on I am being the "protective eye" behind the Doctor!!!!
I don't suppose it could be twins could it? she was taking a lot of natural remedies for egg production as she does not ovulate often.

    Thanking you in anticipation

    Hi JeanP,

No problems at all. It’s my absolute pleasure to try and do this detective work with you and I totally understand where you are coming from with all you and your family have been through. Very sad indeed.

As far as your questions are concerned let’s start with the last one.

Could it be twins? Well it could, however, the most likely situation here it that on the ultrasound the sonographer and/or the doctor would have pointed out two heartbeats and possibly even two sacs. So at this stage if nothing has been mentioned it’s still possible but not very likely.

As far as timing goes, a dating scan around 20 weeks is the best way forward here. However I also understand your concern about wanting to be really clear about dates. The best situation here is to make the doctor really aware of her history (and your history as well) and it doesn’t hurt to remind him/her again and again at crucial pregnancy stages.

Furthermore in her situation it may be worthwhile, considering becoming a private patient (which she probably already is) to ensure that the same doctor monitors her throughout her whole pregnancy.

    I hope this helps.

Let me know if you have any further questions.
