Default Started solids - and she won't stop pooing!?

Hi all, I'm a new member to bub hub and hoping for some advice. I have been giving my 5 mth DD tastes of solids for a couple of weeks now, and since a couple of days into it she has been like a pooing machine At first I thought it was her getting used to it, but its getting worse and she is also only taking about half of her milk feeds each time. I'm thinking I might take her to the doctor, but other than this she seems generally happy and well. Is this normal? She is going on average 4 times a day, sometimes up to 6!!! Any advice from seasoned Mums would be greatly appreciated.

What are you giving her to eat?

Also milk should come before solids as that is where they get their nutrients from.

I've been following the 'Save our Sleep' method of weaning, introducing something new each day at midday and watching for a reaction. So far she has had rice cereal, carrot, apple and pear. It does say as well in the book that up until 6 months, milk should be their main source of nutrition, so that's really what's had me concerned... I rang the health line last night and they said it could be a virus as there is a lot of gastro going around

Good news is, she didn't poo at her dream feed last night and she did a nice solid one this morning, hopefully things have turned a corner!!

Ahhh ... how conversations change once kiddies come along

Actually it is best to wait 3 days to a week to indroduce new food.

Pear is a common culprit for more poo (great when they are constipated.

Milk should be offered first until 12 months (or 9 months for some people)

Not a big fan of Save our Sleep...

Even once medical/diet issues are ruled out, I think you'll find that some bubs are just frequent pooers, and some are not.

As soon as DS started solids, he started pooing several times a day and at nearly 1 he still does.

They look "normal" and don't have much in the way of indigested foods etc in them, and they're a good texture (not hard or runny) so I'm happy that it's just his normal bodily rhythm, even though it totally sucks to be changing a stinky nappy 3 - 4 times every single day (and sometimes up to 5 a day). *sigh*

Whoops .. I meant to say after 3 days, got that wrong

Fair call on the book, I do find varying opinions, I've just found I needed something to base my knowledge on as I really didn't have a clue what I was doing It's been a good base for me to get Georgia into some sort of a routine, but I haven't followed it to the t, just taken the bits that I've found worked and mixed it with advice from others, CYH, etc.

She has been heaps better today, only 2 so far, one hard and one a bit more runny!! I didn't give her the pear this morning so that might have been the difference.

    Thanks girls x

I think when you start solids, bubs tends to favour that over milk feeds which is why its really important to give a milk feed first then an hour later or so offer a solid meal.
