    Default Massages during pregnancy

    Hey All,
I have an almost constant ache in my right side, mainly if I sit for more than 10 mins. The only thing that releives is it lying flat on my back on the hard floor.
Does anyone know if I can go and still get normal massages, someone told me I'd have to go and see people who specalise in pregnancy massage??
    Thanks,
    Kel
ps If anyone has any good tips that would be great!

    Hi ,
I got fortnightly massages when i was pregnant. I saw a myotherapist. Towards the end of my pregnancy i also got a full body relaxtion massage. Neither people were 'pregnancy specialists', however, i did inform both of them before hand that i was pregnant.

I had several GLORIOUS massages during my second pregnancy - but they were SPECIFICALLY designed for pregnancy .

Realistically you can not lie on your back ... not flat anyway .. and you certainly can not lie on your stomach. I had massages where one side was massaged ... then I would roll over, lie on the other side and my whole body would be massaged - I can NOT recommend it enough.

Go and get a pregnancy massage. Make sure you go to someone that has trained in pregnancy massage though ... just to be on the safe side.

With a pregnancy massage the therapists can position you a couple of different ways, either using a table with a cut-out for the tummy to 'hang' down or by laying you on your side. So if you have a preference ask them this as well when you call.

If you are unsure of where to start, you can search on the Associations websites for therapists ...

    Good luck and enjoy.

I had a massage when I was preg with DS2! Made me feel great!

The lady wasnt specialised in pregancy massage but they did have a special table which allowed me to lay on my front.

Basically just a normal massage table with a hole in it for your belly

I'm lucky I have a friend who is a qualified pregnancy massage therapist (she's on the sunshine coast otherwise I'd recommend them) which is great for me as I get to points in my pregnancies where I can barely move my back gets so bad. Try warm baths and heat packs until you can get into one.

From waht she's told me there are actually a number of pressure points they need to avoid during a massage in pregnancy and can only use certain oils there are quite a few they have to leave out, if you're in doubt as to whether they're properly qualified to do pregnancy massage ask if they are covered by private health insurance as they are really made to jump through all the hoops and have their accreditation is up to scratch.

Oh and I forgot my friend uses a childrens beanbag to put your belly which isn't as common as the cut out piece for the massage table.

Thanks heaps girls. I'll look up pregnancy massage near me. I can only see my ache getting worse as I get heavier and, unfortunately, 'sitting' is one of my fave things to do! (Over standing or lying down!)
