    Default Soy Milk

    Hi,
I have a 10 1/2 month old boy who I can't get to drink formula or even watered down cows milk. I have tried sneaking milk in at breakfast time, but now he spits that out and goes for the toast instead, he's only getting breast milk twice a day, once about 5 am and then just before bed at 6.30 pm. Happy to drink water not keen to give him juice. But not sure if I should try soy formula or just go to soy milk watered down just to see if he will drink it. Don't know much about soy milk. Haven't been able to find any pkt of soy formula and getting fed up of throwing away tins of formula. We have been to the nurse who says to give lots of yogurt and cheese, but feel he might need a little extra to help him along, plus not too keen to be breast feeding for much past the year mark. He's a very active boy, and his weight gain has been slow, only 7 kg's at 5 1/5 months and now only 7.95 kg's. He is eating most foods during the day but is not eating much just before bed time. Also noticed that lots of his poohs are not very formed, wondered if he was getting too much dairy. Or just getting top teeth.

Dairy will give them the runs everytime, I don't give ds much dairy at all, but if this happens I stop it completely.

I put him on Goats Milk formula but it's really exxy - why don't you ring or write to Karicare or whoever and ask for some sample sachets. I'm sure they would send you some, they'd be silly if they didn't. Your MCHN might have some too.

Soy milk is very rich, so water it down, but soy is also one of the most heavily sprayed crops around. Make sure you get a proper, organic
brand. Rice milk would be too sweet.

I know bubs is a little young, but some kids really eat bugger all. My friends grandson literally may eat half a ham sandwich and a milkshake a DAY. And he is 2. He is also a happy little chappy and none the worse - if only a little skinny.

    Hope you find an answer!

Have you tried different brands of formula? There was no way ds was going to have a bar of formula until I tried the Heinz brand - finally success!

Each day he drinks a bit more - he started with a sip and a screwed up face, this went to two sips and a screwed up face etc.

Now he can drink 50mls, but he only wants to sip it. Gradually we're getting there.

I personally wouldnt and I think it is written on the soy milk carton that it is not recommended for children under 1 years of age.
Sorry im not much use in ways of formula - never given my kids formula so have no idea which one is better over an another.
Is there any reason why you are only giving him 2 breast feeds a day?? Is it possible to forget about the forumla thing for a while and breastfeed him instead - just a thought.
