Woman gives birth to 'little miracle' after 18 miscarriages

A BRITISH woman who suffered 18 miscarriages gave birth for the first time to a healthy baby girl after a medical breakthrough.

Angie Barker, 33, became a first-time mother after 13 years of trying.
Ms Barker and partner Lee Gibson, 31, - a martial arts instructor - had almost given up and considered adoption when they heard of a new treatment for miscarriage-prone women, The Sun reports.
The doctor pioneering the treatment diagnosed that Ms Barker was miscarrying due to virus-killing white blood cells.
Instead of protecting her unborn baby her white blood cells kept mistaking it for an invader that had to be attacked.
The test that pinpoints the problem - which affects 15 per cent of women - is only available at three hospitals worldwide.
One is in Epsom, Surrey - where Angie cuddled her daughter on Thursday.
Dr Hassan Shehata had come up with a steroid treatment to combat the condition.
But even he admitted Ms Barker’s case was extreme. He said: "Eighteen miscarriages is a huge number.
“You're more likely to win the lottery than have 18 miscarriages through bad luck."
Raiya, now 10 weeks old, was born a healthy 3.2kgs.
Ms Barker, from Peacehaven, East Sussex, said: "She's perfect in every way - my little miracle."

That's amazing. I can't imagine how happy she must be now, holding her baby in her arms. After all that mental trauma.

Now they just need to bring this miracle to other hospitals world wide.

That's great! I know someone who had 10 miscarriages and had the same thing done and now has three children.

Hope it is available in more hospitals soon.

mmm! sounds like Colorado protocol to me which is used by heaps of IVF clinics around the world. And basically it's about having testing for 'killer cells' - which can be tested in at least 2 other ways - one being a biosopy of uterine lining tissue.

They need to provide more information in the article (and it is The Sun in England). Sorry to me it sounds like a routine test done after 3 early m/c's and with repeat IVF failure. Can't see what's so invoate about it and I feel IVF clinics all over the world do this.
