    Default Clexane injections and IVF

Hi I was wondering if someone can help please who has had to have clexane for miscarraige minimisation during ivf.

Im a bit confused. I have just found out I have Factor V Leiden which causes blood clotting but its not a hetezygote so not strong.

it coudl be the reason for my recent miscarraige

anyway we are going to have a transfer of our final embie soon and my FS has said to start Clexane injections from the date of transfer as per their protocol

    but im worried

ive heard from other ladies in the same situation that their FS said clexane from the time of a BFP not from transfer as it can interfere with implantation??

this is our final embie so im scared they got it wrong

anyone who has had to have clexane with ivf - did they start it at transfer or at your BFP???

    Hi Gardenia,

I had clexane injections from the beginning of my IVF cycle and although I didn't get a BFP, I was told if I had I would have been taking up until at least 12 weeks, possibly for a lot longer.

I was told it actually helped implantation by thinning the blood and allow more to flow around. If you find any research to suggest it hinders implantation, please, please let me know. I hadn't heard that before.

I was working on my first 2 IVF cycles and found that even though I had the injection in the evening, I would get huge blood blisters form on my tummy during the day at work. I found I had to press on the injection site for a really long time afterwards to make the blood clot. I also bruised very easily when bumped and bled when cut the smallest amount.

I have to say the clexane injections have been the worst part of my ivf treatment to date. Oh, no - scratch that - beaten only by my bout of OHSS.

In saying that, if it gets me a BFP, I'm going to be lining up again for the injections next cycle.

Oh, forgot to say, I was also told it increased blood flow around the ovaries, helping to build stronger follicle growth. Hence why I took it from the beginning of the cycle.

    Hi

I used clexane as I had 3 m/c. I started it day of transfer and once I got my BFP I stopped it after the 12 week scan. I have a 5month daughter now. Good luck!

I am still on my clexane and will be until 20 weeks. i have no reason dx but after doing 15 cycles and 6 early pg losses my FS was willing to give it a go.

I started day after TF and like i said will continue to 20 weeks. I was on 40mg but have reduced to 20 mg due to bleeding

Penny its not based on any research I guess im researching now by asking. Its just something I heard off someone who had similar problems and is now pregnant - it is what her FS did ie clexane at bfp and not before

BUT she didnt have fertility issues and wasnt going through ivf

    **preg mentioned**

Gardenia, I have had 4 prior losses and used clexane for one of those from the day after transfer. This time, however I am on a higher dose (40mg) and started at the very start of the stim cycle. I am to stay on it until 20 or 24 weeks. I don't have a diagnosis that indicates the use of clexane, however after so many cycles and losses, it seemed worth a try. I also take aspirin.
    Good luck.
Oh, and my previous FS did tell me he thought clexane could hinder implantation, but my current one said that was a load of rubbish, this current FS was the one that has got me this far, so I'll go with his opinion!

    Hi Gardenia,
I also have Factor V Leiden and am heterozygous (inherited 1 gene), not homozygous (1 gene inherited from each parent).

I have been on Clexane from my first IUI and after 2 unsuccessful IVF/ICSI cycles our FS decided to introduce the Clexane earlier (just after egg collection) to improve our chances of implantation.
Here is some info I have found helpful regarding Factor V, clotting and pregnancy.

Hope this helps and wishing you lots of luck!

I have just had egg retrieval for our second try at IVF. I am being put on 40mg of clexane from the day of transfer - I have been told this actually helps with implantation and was shown a research article briefly that talked about killer T cells and how it helps with this - sorry I can't be more specific - good luck and hope this time works for you!
