Default Family Tax Benefit vs Any other Payment

Why is it that those who are collecting FTB each fortnight still feel the need to put down those who collect PPS, NewStart, Austudy, Abstudy (moreso even than Austudy) or any other payment the government hands out, except those on carer payment or carer allowance with a disabled child. It seems like many on here feel that it's ok to be collecting money to care for a disabled child, or to collect money in the way of FTB but anyone on any of those other payments are just the scum of the earth basically.

I'm taking this from Morrigan's thread, which was going a little offtopic so thought I'd start a new one. I know this has been done before, but it seems time to do it again.

I'd like to discuss this, but not in the other thread as it isn't entirely about the different payments.

I have issues with some people and their payments, but not others. It depends on circumstances. Im a self-proclaimed fence sitter. I think its mostly because everyone is entitled to family tax, any child brn gets it. Its not something enitirely discriminatory. I know its assest and means based but do you know what I mean? Im no help. lol

This really ticks me off to be honest. And those who complain the loudest usually receive middle class welfare

Because we don't really value the position of any one who stays at home and cares for children. It's only just Ok if you have a rich man supporting you yanno? But you're still probably lazing around drinking coffee.

Same here. It not only ticks me off but it offends me and it shouldn't, I really shouldn't care what people I don't even know think of me and my situation.

I've been receiving the disability support pension since 2005. Up until a year ago, I hadn't worked since 2004. For the last year, I've received this pension per fortnight while I've been working part time...I'm allowed to work a certain number of hours while receiving this pension.

Obviously, I'm not working now as I'm due to give birth soon. I will remain on the disability pension but I will also receive the FTB parenting payment and also the baby bonus. In other words, I am, and for some time will be, relying on benefits (or welfare if you'd prefer to call it that). When my husband gains employment, my payments will be reduced, but I'll still be receiving them.

Why is this seen as a bad thing to some people?? I planned my pregnancy, it wasn't accidental by any means. I knew when I planned my pregnancy that I would be relying on benefits after having my child and I don't see a problem with it
Sometimes I'd buy Vogue instead of dinner. I just felt it fed me more.

But everyone is entitled to all payments if the criteria is met.

I receive a PPS as I am single.
You become single then you will also receive it - really bloody simple in my eyes.

I think for most they feel as though we don't deserve the payments as we aren't working.
Alot of people just don't take the time to really think about it.
They don't realise that alot of single mums actually have worked their whole life and payed tax.
They probably forget that a huge number don't receive child support.
Also a huge number work part time - you can't really expect a single mum to work 60 hours a week to support her family financially - who will be there to support emotionally??

And then you have those who seem to have something jammed so far up somewhere and will always think they are better and always like something to whinge about.

Just don't ever forget that things change - while you might have money now next year you may be just as poor as me.

My question to those who don't agree with the single mums pension, disabilty etc is what are we supposed to do without the money??
