Clever things you wish they wouldn't do!

I just thought I'd vent all the things I'm SUPER proud of that my 14 month old is so clever and can do some pretty incredible things! But I cant let on to him that I'm so proud because I wish he wouldn't do them!!!

*Firstly, he climbs! He'll get a chair, push it up to the table, climb onto the chair and then up onto the table and then shout and beam with proud. How flipping clever is it that I have to keep the chairs on the oposite side of the room, he'll push the chairs over to climb onto the table. We now have to keep out dining chairs in the spare room, because he's so persistant!

*Turning off/on the television and the dish washer, lights, bedside lamps, and fan. He's obsessed with buttons, but he's worked out which ones do stuff - like turning the fan on is his favourite activity in mummy and daddys room!

*Taking off his own nappy - hmmmm...not cool bubba!

*Escaping from 5 point safety harnesses

*Climbing into the bath.... Theres a step up from the barrier around the base of the shower, he's been trying to do this since he was 10 months old, and he's finally tall enough to throw his leg over and climb into the bath...

*he's WORKING on the zippers to the nappy bag now... he's fluked it once and gotten the bag open wide enough to reach inside and pull things out, its just a matter of time before he works it out completely.

*He responds to the television now. I was watching Oprah and Oprah clapped her hands and says "yay" about something and bubba clapped his hands and said "yay" - awesome! Actually, thats something I'm just proud of in general, though its not ideal that he's watching telly and understanding because now I have to really be aware of the content of things I have on around him.

*He's started playing hide and seek with me, completely autonomously - he'll run off (at home, or in a shopping centre, doesn't worry him) and hide, like just around the corner, and when I find him he'll laugh and run away again. At home I'll here him pad down the hallway really fast laughing and then a door slam.... .... and then I have to work out WHICH door he's found open and shut himself in a room. (because he can somehow tell from the living room if I've accidently left a door 1cm open, just enough to get it open)

I'm super proud of him! He's awesome that he has the gross motor and fine motor skills to pull off these things, also the cognative skills, the problem solving! He's also got great social skills - but he follows random people at the park

gotta love that..... Its great....

I just have a feeling this boy will be smarter than me before too long!

Share yours. At any age. I'm sure we have some precoious 4 year olds out there too!

I think he's forgotten he's only 14 months old!!!! I think he behaves more like an 18month+

F gave up on climbing for a while but is now back at it with a vengeance. I turn around and he is on the blardy couch. 11 months.

A friend from mother's group was going on and on today about how strong her boy is and that he can stand for indefinite periods holding onto something (almost 12 mths) I felt like saying "pfft, F's been doing that since he was 8 mths." I didn't of course!

The one I really love, and don't mind at all, is when he gets totally engrosed in a block or something he is holding in one hand, lets go of the hand he is holding on with and stands totally unassisted for 10+ secs examining it.

He also loves to go to his room and close the door behind him but just this week has worked out how to open it again and let himself out (not the handle of course, just when it is pulled shut) which is great!

The major thing with F though is just that he is an adventurous spirit. He has absolutely no fear and just loves going exploring. At mother's group when the other bubs are on the rugs in the park or in the lounge happily doing their thing, F will be halfway across the park to see what is going on at the playgroung or as occurred today up the hall and under the bed on the otherside of the house before you can blink. I totally love his fearlessness and adventurousness but it can get a bit exhausting when he will never stay in one spot.

I love bubbas fearlessness, and I give myself credit for it, he's been demand fed, co-slept, baby worn, right now he's sitting on my lap, so he's been shown nothing but safety, love and security... but sometimes I wish he didn't think he could fly.

Or when he runs across the park - and keeps running - and running - and running - and wait a minute, he's not gonna stop is he?! BUBBBAAAA WAAAIIIITTTTTTTT!!!!! *me running*

Chel that's what I figure with F too - he has always been held, cuddled, fed, slept in our bed etc whenever he wanted. And was worn (not by intent but necessity - the only way to stop the screaming and get him to sleep) for most of the first 4 months of his life. I do think that is at least in part why he is such and adventurer and now is very independent and happy to do stuff on his own.

Yeah, I didn't PLAN to do all that, but it happened through his colickiness early on, then my anxiety. He was literally not put down in another room until he was 8 weeks old (aside from the one time he stopped breathing... hmmm... not a co-incidence it took me 7 weeks to do it again) but after 2 months of carrying him everywhere, it was nice, so we kept doing it.

Its nice though how independant he is one moment and then the next (right now) he just wants to be on me. Its nice. I think he's got a good balance with his personality. (okay, i just love that he's a mummas boy

)

Only cuddles I get now are at bedtime. F's default position seems to be that cuddling is for losers, why the kisses are so special

DD (20 months) is obsessed with closing doors, which is great because we are trying to encourage her to shut her bedroom door so the dog can't get on the carpet. The only problem is she likes to get into the bathroom and shut the door... which has a dodgy knob and will jam shut! So she can happily throw toilet paper into the loo, pull everything out of the linen press and grab everything from the counter top!

She's also learning all about sharing, which has the unfortunate outcome that she very graciously shares all of her toys with the dog!

It's wonderful that she is happy to share (with anyone but DF and I that is!) but the dog doesn't need encouragement to eat crayons, dolls and books etc!

The most annoying though is tghat she can operate the tv, dvd player, cd player and xbox! So if DF or I are watching something like the news that DD decides is boring she'll walk up, change the tv channel and put on one of her Wiggles dvds! It's very clever of her to know how to put on a dvd and to get it to play... but why must she do it when I want to watch something?!?

Thats funny. Jasper is obsessed with the wiggles. He'll find random DVDs or CDs and hand them to me, or offer the DVD or CD to me and then point it at the telly - I THINK he's trying to ask me to put The Wiggles on... otherwise he's just being cute.

Keiaras dad is a computer technician so is always undoing screws having a look and doing them back up.

So whenever Keiara gets her hands on a screwdriver she is undoing the screws on her toys to fix them...

It's cute but it's annoying.
