Default How long till I can drive - Am with Suncorp for car insurance...

    Hi all,

I had an emergency C-section a few weeks back and I'm wondering if you know how long Suncorp Car Insurance require for me not to drive (in regards to being covered for insurance)?

I would appreciate an answer if you know as I don't feel like calling them and being on hold forever!

    TIA

My expectation would be if you consult your GP (or ob) and he writes a doctors certificate stating that you are medically cleared to drive, then that would be sufficient.

I dont have anything to back that up, I just think it would eliminate uncertainty.

It is until your doctor gives you the ok, so if doctor said no driving for 6 weeks then it is 6 weeks, I haven't heard of anyone needing to see the doctor to get the ok but you would need to call Suncorp to check.

Hi, I am with SGI@ - I rang them and they said there was no time - as long as the doctor OK'd it. I waited until my 6 week check to get the OK. Have to admit tho, I was occasionally driving at about 4 weeks on (no bubs in car tho!)

Everybody's healing is different. My Dr OK'd it at 16 days. Some people are still hardly able to walk straight at 5 weeks post.
See how you personally feel, and then consult your Dr for a letter.

Hospital told me 6weeks.. pfttt I went crazy and was driving by 4weeks! I think its just for insurance purposes.. but who would know you just had a csection.... just get a medical clearnce from the Dr if you realy worried in regards to your insurance policy.

Our hospital told me there was no time. As long as I could slam on the brake without hurting myself I could drive. I was driving again at 3 weeks. I had a great recovery.

I contacted my insurer (AAMI) a few weeks ago. They said there was no time limit. It was only if I'd been told by my doctor that I wasn't allowed to drive for a certain period.

So, following that theory, it seems as long as the doctor doesn't say anything, I can drive myself home from the hospital!

I have worked in insurance claims for the past 6 years and have never heard of there being an exclusion with regards to a C. I would suggest checking the PDS for your policy online.
