    Default your thoughts??

    hi everyone
so my DH is hassling me for another baby (DD is 19months) but i would like to wait until im 21 which is another 18 months away.
so because i have so much time before we TTC im wondering if its worth looking into a private health fund?? i definatly want better treatment then what i got last time but i dnt wanna pay outta the u know what and still not be garunteed anything?
because ive also heard that theres still great public hospitals like redlands, mater mothers etc but i wanna give birth in a tub and really feel it next time not suck on a bed with epi having no say bacause i was so young.
so i just wanted everyones thoughts on whether its worth going private or can i still have great public service if so where???

Perhaps you could try the birth centre at RBWH? I believe there are only a few hospitals in Qld that actually do allow waterbirth (one is private) but I believe the criteria at the RBWH is pretty rigid and acceptance is based on a ballot once you pass the "low risk" requirements.

Of course there is always home birth that guarantees you choice (and a tub!)

*ETA I think some are more flexible with labouring (like Nambour general) in water but will ask you to get out of the tub to birth.

If you had a shocking experience in the public system like I did and can afford private insurance I would say get it definitely!! However if its water birth you are wanting, Id say "fat chance" going private. PP mentioned there is one place they do it - Id love to know where?
Birth centre is better option for that and some (very few) public will offer water birth. There are a lot of fantastic home water birth stories on here if you have a look, I dont think its something Ill be considering but it definitely works for a lot of women. Either way, just remember this time that its your baby, your body and your birth and dont let them bully you and treat you like a moron who doesnt know what she's talking about!!! GRRR, dont even get me started! *wink*

yeh they make it hard to have a waterbirth without being at home but i dnt wanna be at home incase similar complications arise like first time, my pelvis was too small so they had to twist her and pull her out with vacuum but fast coz of meconium and other horrible thngs!! even if i could just stay in the tub till push time i think would be good but i thought only private hospitals had tubs-logan wouldnt even let me sit on a fitball little own have a shower so i wasnt sure bout tubs in public.

OMG that is terrible!!! Even in my shcocking hospy, Redcliffe, with my terrible and traumatic birth, I still was alowed on the fitball in the shower for ages! Some people make me mad!!! Bullies, thats all they are! Wish you the best next time and I cant see anyone having a problem with you being in the shower or bath if its available next time. The water was such great pain relief!!

it is rare for water births in private, from what i have heard anyway!

i went private with DD and was 19 at the time and nurses tried to keep bossing me around. they wanted me in the bath, but i couldn't stand it!!!

IMO, it's not always the hospital, but being a young mum people try to tell you what is best for you! i think the fact that you had complications doesn't help the situation either.

you would need to check on how long you need to have private health insurance before it applies for obstetrics and hospital, i heard some funds are changing the wiating periods! go on iselect.com. au and you can look through all the different covers etc!

    good luck!

    Selangor private hospital in nambour.
We provide a comprehensive maternity care service catering for all types of birth. Uniquely, our experienced team of midwives, obstetricians, paediatricians and anesthetists work together to fully support women in their choice to enjoy water birth, natural twin birth and natural birth following one or more previous caesareans.
I should say, I have heard from many women satisfied with their experiences there and from women that weren't.. so at the end of the day nothing is guaranteed, it is still a hospital and governed by hospy policy. But they do offer waterbirth and that was what you were asking about.
