    Default Induction Tape

I was just wondering if anyone had a tape inserted for induction, rather than gels?
I ended up going in to labour the morning I was supposed to be induced so missed being induced, but the obs was going to use a tape. Apparently it hangs out a bit so you just have to be careful going to the loo.
As I'd never heard of it before then I wondered how others went with it. Just curious.

not sure if this is what you are talking about ( i never heard it being referred to as a tape ) but any way.. i didnt have any gel.. in stead they inserted ( warning TMI ).. how do i say this.. well it was like a cathetar (sp?) but it has a balloon on the end.. once inserted they fill the balloon with water so it streches and places pressure.. theygradually increase the amount of water and from what i gathered it slowely helps to strech the cervix if your not dilated yet.. does that make sense?? i was induced at 37 1/2 weeks and since it was my first bubs they didnt do an internal insisting i wasnt going to be ready.. they inserted it and filled the balloon with water ( it was to be left over night ) and as soon as i move it fell out.. they thought it must not have been in properly and put it back in.. it fell out again so they did an internal and discovered i was 2 cm already so it wasnt going to work as i was already there so i didnt need it.. they then broke my waters and just gave me the drip.. not sure if this helps you or not...

They used it for my induction.

I was induced 3 times...twice with the tape, and once with gel.

The tap is kinda like a long, flat tampon-looking thing. They press it up against the side of the cervix...and the end hangs out like a tampon-string. It stays in there for 24 hours before it takes effect (which is a pain!).

In my case, nothing worked though. There were 2 other girls who were also induced with the tape, and it failed for them. They needed the gel (I think that worked for them...but it didn't on me).
I've now lost 36kg thanks to the gastric sleeve!

I was induced with the tape. It worked straight away with me. 30mins later i was contracting.

Like sassymummy said its just like a flat tampon. You dont feel it being inserted and once its in you dont feel anything either.

If i need another induction i will ask for this method again

Thanks ladies for answering my question.
SassyMummy I had just been reading your reply on the priv vs pub induction thread and it sounds like you had a terrible time of it!
