Sorry I knew I should have put more into that post. I was a bit preoccupied with keeping my boy out of mischief and had to speed up my post response. Which meant it didn't read in the way I intended.
Thank you for clarifying that point.

Yes. While the earth does go through climate cycles, humans have definitely made an impact.

I tend to laugh now when I hear people say it's not changing. Hello, it was 47 degrees in Melbourne last year!
He who laughs last probably didn't get the joke.

Can I ask what evidence you base that view on? And your thoughts on why the vast majority of scientists don't support it?

Well based on the OP question, you could say the scientists are all being paid off by the govenment to make you believe its humans coursing it

Do people actually believe that the way they live has NO impact of the environment?

I believe that whilst climate change is part of earth's natural cycle, the degree of change is greatly exasperated by humans.

Yes, the ice caps may have slighty increased in 2008, the degree of change is outside of the normal flucuations of earth's natural cycle

The amount of water on the earth is fixed, and we cannot re-create water. The distribution of water is variable, and the changes in the distribution of water will greatly affect the entire world's immediate environment.

Proving climate change as been here before, the Sahara desert was once covered in a forest. climate change AND human intervention has turned it to a desert.

(There are some parts of the world that have never ever had natural rainfall since records have been kept (Atacama Desert Chile).)

If the Polar Caps change more than a certain degree, the tides and the currents within the oceans change. Once that changes, our weather patterns change. Once the weather patterns change, then our immediate environment changes as well. If the natural subtle changes continue to accelerate at an unprecednt level, then different regions of the world will change too quickly for nature to adapt - BTW nature includes us as humans. It may yet rain one day soon in the Atacama Desert!

There are a few facts to remember about 'averages' as well. Simplistically 5 is the average of 4,5 & 6. It is also the average of 3, 5 & 7. If we are used to high/low tides of 3, 4 & 5 m's for example, we would find high/low tides of 1 & 9 m's to be catastrophic. Like wise, temperatures of 10, 20 and 30 say may be temperate, but 0, 20 and 40 would be drastic even though the 'average' stays the same.

Climate change that changes the highs and lows quite dramtically greately effect our normal living conditions or local immediate environment.

If the average has changed by say 1 degree, the highs and lows may be now -11 and 49 degrees.

In Mebourne in November we might expect 23 rainy days and 60mm of rain - lost of rain to soak in and go into the catchments, if the climate continues to change, we might yet again get only 3 rainy days of 20mm each day - and therefore the crops fail 'cos we had three straight weeks of no rain.

I hope that all makes sense...

I am undecided on 'climate change' in relation to 'global warming' and 'melting ice caps' etc..

I do believe we are completely destroying the planet through mining, emmissions, deforrestation (sp), land fill, plastics, ocean pollution - basically everything we do.

I do not believe the government has any intention what so ever to do anything positive to address ANY of these concerns because they are driven my finance and control etc.

But, they can't ignore it either - the world is becoming aware. So they do just enough to reassure ppl they can 'take care of us' but not enough to threaten big business. 'Global warming' is a convenient 'catch phrase' that they can respond to with things like ETS, meetings like Kyoto and Copenhagen, recylcing etc. But at the end of the day governments are still the ones driving this CONSUMPTION BASED WORLD. To the extend that I believe the ETS is just another economy they are creating to make more money, without actually reducing overall emmissions to any significant extend.

So I do agree that this 'global warming' thing is being manipulated by government to some extend and understand why ppl are washing their hands of the whole thing.

But the fact remains the planet is doomed because we are doing everything in our power to destroy it - how ppl can actually ignore that is beyond me.
