Default Restarting Breastfeeding after 6 month Break

I was wondering if anybody has stopped breastfeeding for a long period of time then started again. Just discovered that after not breastfeeding my 9month old for 6 months due to medication had to take is possible. After some manipulation by hand and mouth complete success. Would love to hear if anybody else has done this.

I did not know you could re-lactate after so long! I am so happy. I am going to look into it and see if I can get the twins feeding again! They never took to it well and I stopped.

    Thanks for sharing!

Personally I haven't been through that but ABA have a booklet on relactation and adoptive breastfeeding as well as a section on their forum by the same name which would be worth looking at. Best of Luck.

Wow, awesome job! Relactation can be really hard work, there are some things that can make it easier though (ie a supply line that you tape to your breast so that bub is getting any supplemental feeds from your breast, giving your breasts the extra stimulation they need to recommence producing enough milk to sustain your bub).

You might like to contact the ABA or a lactation consultant to discuss how to best use one.

Well done you - what a fantastic thing to do for your bubba

Thankyou for your replies everyone. I was amazed myself to find you can achieve this after so long as many people find after a few days of stopping their supply has gone. Apparently your body keeps producing it at the back of your ducts for up to 2 years. If I had known that with my first I would have done the same as was young and found it an inconvenience. Good luck with restarting with your twins shockinamillion. If you can get them to latch on at the same time you will get a huge supply according to my research.
